Buying lenses overseas...

Anyone doing it? Seems so much cheaper to get in US..18-250 for around 750 Sing dollars compare to shop selling around 950-999 in singapore...

Added a couple to my dry-box during a trip to HK in December. Prices there are like 20-30% cheaper and includes warranty (converted from HK to Singapore at Sony Style HK).

I must say prices set by Sony Singapore here is really a letdown and dampener to the growth of the Alpha system!

Agree, I'm anxiously waiting for my friend to return from the states with 3 lens there, if i'm buying in sg, I can't even get 2 lens from the Sony's list price with the same amount of money! Now if only I have the moolah for G lens...

Bro ... if you intend to shave a few more % discount off your HK spree, bring cash. Though the shop (the one I patronise) do not charge extra for using credit card, I believe some savings could be had from the better exchange rate by using cash.

Bro ... me dunno about Tamron, but I got a Sigma from HK and it came with International warranty, no conversion needed.

As for Sony stuff, they come with local HK warranty. Just need to bring the item to a nearby Sony Style HK branch (there is one near Mongkok MTR stn) to have it converted to Singapore warranty.

recently i went china. I Bought a 50mm len which is selling 100 dollars cheaper than what singapore sells which is 680 dollars. Anyone have any ideas why lens sell in singapore more expensive than other countries?

If you paid 580, you still paid too much. :P

The price disparity in SG (along with all other Sony products, such as laptops and LCD TVs) has always been a complaint.

because the distributer still live in the last century and think that consumers won't know the price in hk, china and usa, hence the price disparity. actually we are not the worse hit... UK have the worst price of all...

in singapore, all we get is to grab good deals for bodies during it fairs where they throw in loads of freebies to offset the price difference. lens is definitely priced much too high.
