I am planning to get a A700 soon, but wondering which package of len to get. My first project will be going to Phuket during early march to do some photo-taking. Could someone advice me whether SAL16105 or Carl Zeiss® SAL1680Z lens will be better for a start up and why. Do i need any Filters for that trip? Budget set to be somewhere 3.5K.
What are some of the accessories which i may need to invest for my future photography? My future scope of photography will be landscape/ travel, macros/ closed up and Abstracts. Would be greatly appreciate if you guys could give me some of your valuable advices ![]() |

It's "lens", not "len".
That aside, if you can get the CZ 16-80, you'll be very happy with it. It's extremely sharp! For macros you may want to invest in a tamron 90mm macro lens. For filters... Well, I would suggest a CPL.

Bro ... you may like to consider the new 18-250mm as well. Great walkabout lens IMHO.
Cheers!

there's a carl zeiss FF lens 24-70mm which i think it's the best lens in it's range.
oh ya, it got SSM and it's f2.8. prove to be better then the 16-80. but don't think it's will be coming out in time for you. so suggest you get a cheap one first or go and rent lens. hope it's help.

i believe he meant 3.5k with the body itself..the soon to be launched cz estimated will be ard 3k already...i agree that the 18-250 is a good walkabout lens..so is the 16-105..but where do u see yourself in photography in a few years time? if r not going to upgrade to any other lens..juz get either of these 2 lenses and stop there..but if u r going to upgrade to hardcore lenses..might as well get the cz 16-80..and save up to buy more hardcore lenses..oncd u start buying...u wun stop easily...especially being 'poisoned' by other lenses..

Hi Rashkae
Thanks for the correction and i will look into CPL. Any idea how much does it cost? Hi catseye 18-250mm sound like a good lens with 14X zoom... hmm but wondering how much does it cost? I believe 18-250mm does not come as a package with e body right? Hi a.c.e Thanks for the advise, but i think that is over my current budget. However, i am curious. Where can i get rental service for lens? Sorry for asking, but i am relative new in DSLR. DewaKarma Very likely i will be upgrading in the near future. For now, i think i will stick to some basic lens first. But i do agree that it is very addictive especially when more and better lens are coming out ![]() Many thanks for the advices given so far =) |

Took this series exclusively using the 18-250 from behind a crowd. Cheers! Simon

Thanks simon for the info and the series you took at Vivocity. To me, the pictures are consider quite good considering the distance and angle at which you are taking from.
However, i am relative new to this field... would like to know what do you think about the quality of the picutres taken using 18-250? |

The series I took actually may not do justice to the lens.Compared to the CZ16-80mm, I am actually very impressed with the image quality of the 18-250mm given the range and the price. Only downside is the relatively small aperture of 6.3 at the tele end and the fact it is a DT lens. Coupled with SSS, guess it makes a very good walkabout lens. Bro eow can show you some pretty awesome capability of this lens.

It's quite nimble to af for a superzoom, and the performance and image quality is definitely there. It's one powerful walkabout lens.

Thanks Bro .... long time no see ![]() Most of the shots are ISO800 without flash. I use Aperture Priority with Apertures at 5.6, 6.3 or 8 giving Shutter about 1/100s or faster. It was lucky that the stage was pretty well lit. Hehe ... I did not have my A700 with me at that time. This set was taken with the KM5D. Cheers!
