Default Macros at Canal

Went back to the canal to shoot macros this time.

FZ30+Raynox 250, F11, various speeds, ISO80, 2 diffuse flash, handheld

#1: Crab Spider (Thomisidae)


#2: Front view


#3: Top view


#4: Some beetle


#5: "Sit"

The bug in #6 to #8 is of the genus helopeltis (Miridae family). You have noticied the distinctive "antenna" on its back. Generally considered a pest in fruit farms. It seems to be harmless individually, but can do major damage in numbers especially in cocoa plantations.

hi tchuanye... juz a Q... you use a second flash to lit up the background??...

Thanks! Well, I have been searching for this spider for ages too!!!! Saw one at Phuket, but this is first time, this species in Spore.

The 2nd flash is mainly used to minimise the shadows, and cast a low light to the subject. My main flash with the long tilted diffuser does the illumination of the background, as well as providing a top down lighting.

This was what as I mentioned. Though sometimes, I do use the slave to illuminate the BG.
Depends on how the lighting turns out, I will adjust accordingly.

i was wondering whether using a reflector can illuminate the bg better then direct flash??.. need some pointers.. hee

Its not really direct flash, as its still diffused in some way.

No harm trying reflector....since digital is free!
