I've tried B+W MRC Haze and Hoya Pro1 Digital. Both cause vignetting at the 16mm end. The Hoya Pro 1 is *slightly* better in this regard, but it's still obvious enough to cause annoyance.
Anyone manage to get a filter that doesn't give vignetting problems @ 16mm? What, where and how much? Thanks!

Hi,
I am using a B+W F-Pro 62 KR-1.5 Skylight 1.1x MRC from CP about S$80/-. Also used a Hoya HMC Skylight 1B before from MS colour at about S$40/-. Never have any vignetting problem at the 16mm end. Always use at the 16mm end. Last edited by frederickykfoo; 9th February 2008 at 09:53 PM. |

Wah! Another money-milking venture from SONY...
Any slimline filter from any of the major brands should work I guess... must specify for ultra wide angle lenses... |

Sony filters? What's the price gonna be like? $120?
![]() Does CP stock Heliopan? I hear they're about as thin as you can get.

Hi people,
I have given up the search for an ultra-thin 62mm filter for this lens. Wouldn't have been cheap. And even if I do find it, there's not guarantee that it would not cause extra vignetting. Some people have had success in mounting 62mm filters w/o vignetting? When I tried on my copy, it isn't just light fall-off, I can actually the filter frame on the top corners of the image! Differing manufacturing tolerances perhaps? Sony's own filter for this lens, I also couldn't get any info on when it's coming. Alpha showroom @ Cathay told me of some "QC problems", so "shipment will be delayed until dunno when"... So my solution: 72mm Hoya Pro1 Digital mounted on a 62-72mm step up ring. No problems. But major disadvantage is that I cannot use the lens hood any more.

What about slim versions of the filters? They usually don't come with threads to stack another filter but they have a thinner ring.

Actually the ProDigital filters from Hoya should fit... they are ultra-thin... there should not be a problem finding filters for this lens cos there are quite a few users around and I have not seen any complaints... do bring the lens and body down to Cathay and try out their high end ultra-thin filters from either Hoya or B+W. It's going to cost you though, $100+. |

I'm a bit surprised that people can mount the 62mm filters straight on to their CZ1680 without any problems. When I did, even the SHMC Pro1 filters were no good. Could defnitely see the inner edge of the filter. In fact, I tried to mount a 67mm filter via 62-67mm step-up ring - still could see obvious filter shadow! It disappears around the 17/18mm mark, but I feel I shouldn't need to compromise in this regard.

The B+W UV Haze MRC Slim filter has a 3mm ring which is as thin as the Hoya Pro 1 Digital. And I can't find anything that has a thinner ring. Can't help you with the filter.
Just to check, does it vignette even without filter? |

Ok, according to this the vignetting is quite sever at 16mm at f/3.5-4.5, up to 1.41EV. But they don't have a sample at 16mm to examine or compare. Maybe that's the reason why?

A little bit disappointing lah, honestly. For such a premium grade lens, I consider this as a fundamental design flaw. Also have the Sigma 17-70mm, and I think Sigma has this already taken into consideration in the design.

minor vignetting shouldn't be too concerned about it. can be fixed in photoshop or lightroom.
sony/cz simply designed this lens filter thread size way too tight. would be much better if its a 67mm or 72mm front filter thread.

From what I read in dyxum.com reviews, it seems that it is impossible to find filters to mount onto the front of the lens without causing additional vignetting (at 16mm).
However, I am somewhat surprised to hear that some users here have managed to use 3mm thick filter frames (Like Hoya Pro1D) without any problems. So I have to conclude that there could be differing manufacturing tolerances, or even slight modification of design? And yes, I do know how to screw in a filter!

The way the VF-62MPAM is designed, the internal section is angled away; this prevents vignetting. This makes it a pain to use the lens cap though.
