Default First try at some insects

Tried my new cam that day at pierce reservoir... Question for you guys, how do you get decent lighting in such dark environments eg. forest? Large apertures are not very good either i guess... Used the built in flash but don't really like the effect for some pics... Do you need a ringflash or something? Cheers!

1 and 3 pretty good. I think some masters here use off-shoe flash unit for better lighting.
