Default Does the Gold-line of your G lens peel?

Mine juz peeled (dont use much of this lens) and it seems like sticker tape. Worried that it may affect the resale value in future should I decide to sell it.

Any user with similar experiences out there...? Or should I be bothered by it at all? At least till I wanna sell it.

nikon and canon has 2 kinds.

one is just a thin strip of sticker pasted around the lens and thus looked like a ring. the D40/40x 18-55mm kit lens has a ring around it made of sticker which is easily peeled

the others are those found on lens such as the 70-200, it is not a sticker, instead it is painted onto the lens

all my Gs have not peeled too. But some have white stains which resembles oxidation.

Anyways many of these Gs are more than 10yrs old already, as long as its optically perfect with smooth focusing and zoom, the slight cosmetics defect are mostly expected and should not affect the resale price much.

When the G lenses were made by minolta, they had a gold line around the edge. Like this:

Its in the dry cabi most (99.5%) of the time. Anyway, the loose end is dangling and irritating. Will probably remove it completely. Guess this model is not painted but stickered-on. Got this lens in '06.

Thanks for all the replies...

If that's your concern, its time to cocoon your lens in triple layers of shrink wrap and find its way to the darkest corner of the dry cabinet and make sure it doesn't see light till the day you decide to sell it......

skarly it's because when you remove the gaffer tape it pulls at the gold ring, until one day peel off...

Interesting... relook at the 85G and the "G"old strip is indeed a sticker in a groove and not painted on.

Yes, but that makes it very easy to replace.
