Hi. I've noticed Tamron lenses are very popular in Singapore, Japan and probably in the States too. Just want to start this thread going so that my next lens purchase will be a wiser one.
What are your comments on Tamron lens, especially if they last (please specify how long have you been using it and if you are a rough handler yourself), value to performance ratio and whether you will buy a Tamron lens or not in your next lens upgrade. Thank you. |

I've got several Tamron's in my arsenal and they are all excellent lenses. However these are manual focus SP series lenses and are not that far behind the OEM lenses from Nikon, Canon etc.
As with all 3rd party lenses there's quite a bit of variation from lens model to lens model, however as a general rule Tamron and Tokina lenses have lower levels of pincushion and barrel distortion than their Sigma equivalents. As I keep on saying, test any lens before you purchase ![]()

Hi,
I personally have 6 or 7 SP lenses and maybe 4 non SP lenses from the Tamron Range. Maybe I am biased towards Tamron but they have never failed me, Adaptall or AF. Consistently sharp and contrasty, wonderfully solid handling. But then again, don't expect to buy a $200 lens from Tamron and compare favourably to a $800 - $1000 lens. On average, I find that the price differrential should only be 50-70% of the Camera Brand Lenses. Any higher expectations will probably be disappointed. Regards ![]() |
