Default Questions on Vintage Cameras and Film

Hello everyone!

A VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS CNY TO ALL! HUAT AH!

Is there anyone/anywhere in SG that sells 620 film???

Also, does anyone here own a Kodak Brownie camera? I'm in the midst of bidding for 2 on ebay.

Lastly, do any of you people play with vintage cameras? I'm suddenly intrigued by OLD GRANDFATHER cameras... HA.

Cheers!!

I have a 1962 Leica M2 fitted with a Russian Jupiter 3 50/1.5 lens made around the same time. Don't get a Kodak brownie, the film size is extinct. Get cameras that can use 120, 35mm or even 4x5 film.

1980 Canon A-1 film SLR and 1984 Pentax 645 medium format these can be used for both serious and alternative photography. For example my 35mm color film x-pro in B&W chemicals - I use the A-1 for that.

Yes, avoid the Brownie, there are some better deals out there. Russian rangefinders are cheap, and they are Leica clones. The Lomographic Society has some Russian cameras floating around.

Seagull TLRs haven't changed much since their heyday. No meter, so good luck with your knowledge of Sunny 16, or carry a small compact camera/DSLR to serve as your meter and 'digital back'.

Mamiya has some TLRs, the most famous being the C330. Or pick up one of their used Mamiya M645 systems for cheap on Ebay. These are the 'old school' medium format cameras

Medium format TLRs and SLRs will accept contemporary 120 film that you can buy at most decent photo shops in town. And goes without saying 35mm rangefinders can accept modern day 35mm film which is found in abundance just about anywhere.

I bought 620 rolls for my Kodak Duaflex from B&H a few years ago with some other gear. I just checked and found out I still have a roll inside, *gasp*. Must be the E100G roll... lol

I wouldn't say extinct, 620 is 120 film rerolled into a smaller spool. Problem is not many people out there reroll them.

Off-topic, but click this thread for details.... Not every scanner can handle it because the negatives come out very dark and low contrast.

i've got quite a few 'old school' cameras ie, Minolta SRT and XG-1n and i agree that such cameras can produce lomo-ish shots.

but for me, i'd prefer to shoot with really weird and different cameras to fall under the category lomo. ha. so yah.

i was thinking of getting a TLR and a RF. for the former, i think it's difficult to shoot lehhh. from the waist and all. and 120 is quite a hassle lah (though i do my own developing and scanning at home; by the way, can someone here teach me how to unroll the 120 film on to the reel!!?? thanks!) and for the latter, RF is too ex for me lah. i was thinking of getting a voigtlander from chiff (body i can afford, lens, i can't!) ha. and i'm not interested in getting a FED now (though i was last time) ha. i'm hunting for a canonet QL17 on ebay, but it's still not RF-ish enough to be a RF lah... more like PNS with a lot of control. HAHA.

i was thinking that i'll just get 2 rolls of 620 film and then roll the 120 film on myself lor... ha. but the thing is, i need the 620 film holders first!! ANYONE OUT THERE WANTS TO SELL!? haha.

oh. with regards to the seagull, how and where to get one ah? also, is it very difficult to shoot with?

thanks!

gong xi fa cai!

yeap, brownie hawkeye is also able to use 120 rolls. on the receiver end you MUST have a 620 spool thou. The fresh roll end you can just pop in a 120.

Looking great mdzmr! haha, enjoy your hawkeye..

ps: anyone can get me porta 400 NC ?
