Default Mamiya 645

Hi guys,

My cousin was into medium format camera previously but he decided to give up this hobby for good and passed me his Mamiya cam and several lens for sale. The irony of this is that he only used this set of equipment once and when i looked at it, i was surprise at the pristine condition he had kept them.

As everyone is aware, before the digital onslaught, these category of cam and lens usually cost a bomb. But now, i am not so sure. So i was just wondering where should i go in order to get a good price for his cam and lens? Does Singapore still has a market for such cam and lens? As i am extremely new to this, i don't have much knowledge and any info to jumpstart my research would be very helpful and appreciated.

Thanks!

CK

Hi Verticoastro,

The following is the list of equipments i have:

Mamiya 645 Pro
35mm F3.5
45mm F2.8
80mm F4
150mm F3.8
55-110mm F4.5
105-210mm F4.5
50mm F4 Shift Lens
135 to 35mm Film Back

So if base on the above list of equipments, how much would it be worth?

WoW! That's a lot of lenses!

Just my opinion... if you choose to sell the whole lot as a set, I'm afraid the total price might be ... er... overwhelming.

But if you break up the set and sell the lens separately, it will require some effort to get them all sold. The 35mm & 45mm would probably sell off faster as they are wide angle lenses and most MF wide angles are hot items.

I suggest that you check out the items on eBay and see what's the second hand market price out there, get a good feel of the price range.

You might want to put the items on consignment at the second hand shops and enlist their help to value the items.

Hope that helps! Good Luck!

Thanks guys. Checking with Ebay is definitely a strategy in finding out the price but my concern here is that, is there still a market for medium format cam? I was thinking of puting it on Ebay US and selling to the Ang Moh instead since US has a bigger market...

The most likely result you get from selling at eBay, is that you might have to sell them at a cheaper price then to a local buyer. If you not in the hurry just list them here in clubsnap. You will get better selling price if you sell the stuff locally.

From my experience of selling some of my collection or I like to say "cutting off the excess fat". eBay buyers in US where the big bulk of eBay buyers are from. Would rather buy from US seller or seller with very high good rating.

The best result I get so far is from posting in Clubsnap buy and sell. Where there opportunely to attract local or Malaysians or Indonesians buyers and at a higher selling price then eBay. But the down side is you have to wait. I see time is a good thing for you. You now can slowly try out this great MF system

Thanks Singscott for the valuable advice. I think i will try listing it out here.... As for trying out, hehehehe... I don't quite know how to use it... if it is back in the film old days, i would be very excited. But now, the thought of sourcing for the film, developing and printing it kinda puts me off a bit.... But who knows, i may just take your advice and give this good MF cam a try... Now first thing first... where is that manual... Ha!

Wow Bro, from what I see on your list there's a value for it.
If you cam lover I suggest you utilised it. I think at least take me 5 years or more to have a kind of stuff you have.

Think it over or you might regret it. Don't think old gems have no value for it.

Hi mdzmr,

I am overwhelmed by the lens my cousin has but i don't think i will ever go into it. It is too much of a hassle for me. If you know of anyone who is interested in any of the lens, do let me know.

Cheers!
