It seems the Pentax bosses have been forced to re-evaluate their pricing strategy when Samsung announced their re-badged version of the K20D at 30% lower price.
The K20D were developed jointly but apparently, they did not set a common selling price. This means Pentax may be forced to lower their pricing also which is good news for Pentax buyers but probably bad news in the long term. Pentax is a small company. They need to recover their development cost and earn a healthy return to justify continuing to exist. Otherwise development of new lenses, products may slow. Their proposed pricing is already below their C and N competitors but now they may be forced to cut further prior to their launch. I wonder how this will play out eventually? ![]() http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk...ws_177349.html (If the link is too long, try going to http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk and look for the article there) |

Either they turn the screws on Samsung or Pentax jack prices on their K mount lenses... after all they've managed to grow quite a sizable customer base with their successful K10/100 DSLR cameras, and these customers will need lenses.

I think majority will settle for 2 or 3 lenses only and pure P&S upgraders would probably be kit lens users permanently, so the scope may be narrow in this field.

of course, the lower the prices of DSLRs, the better for us consumers. ![]()
