Default Tamron 17-50 2.8

Will this be a good replacement for the kits? Any idea the price?

This lens was claimed to perform better than the Sigma 18-50 2.8 macro but I can't be sure myself. I already have the Sigma 18-50 2.8 which I am using as my primary walk about lens in place of the kit lens. First thing you notice is its heavier! Image quality is good but maybe is just be but that 5mm difference with the kit lens seems very obvious when i am zooming in...
If you do not have the sigma, go for the tamron. it did have better reviews..

It is one of the choices for kit lens replacement. I guess the price should be same as the other mount, btw $600-$700.

Reviews for this Tamron 1750 have been very positive, I'm sure some would be very pleased to replace their kit lens w/ this one I myself might get the dual lens set: T 1750 and 70200/2.8 set

If the Tamron 17-50/2.8 had been released earlier I would have saved half the money over the not-so-dustproof DA* 16-50

Between these 2 which one would you prefer if you have the chance to choose again? Do you think is it worth it to go for DA* 16-50?

The DA*16-50mm was actually quite a performer for me... but there's others who felt otherwise.

Just this week, I was out having a little fun shooting with my Fren, and he wasn't able to bring his NXXXX as his combination of lens and body wasn't weather-proof (cos it's drizzling).

It's really your take...

Tamron 17-50 or DA*16-50 is really up to you. I'm not able to compare, but so far i like the colours produced by the DA*16-50.

It boils down to a choice of SDM v screwdriver AF and SMC coating. I'm not sure how effective is the weather sealing as I've already got some dust specks inside the lens and I haven't even used it much

That's new! Are you intending to send it in for a "check up"?

A few other people also got dirt in their DA* 16-50. Anyway being an external zoom there is bound to be dirt sucked inside sooner than later. Just something to get used to

I know dust will get into such zooms sooner or later but should not be so easy for such lens. Guess i'm wrong.

My 16-50 feels somewhat 'frictionless' when zooming, like a 16-45. I should bring it to Shriro for a check, maybe they missed out a weather seal or two at the factory

This lens is available in HK and China already. Price is around $600SGD, pretty good I'd say.

I just got Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 Macro from HK during my recent trip there

I went to TST (mention in the consumer forum) but has not arrive. I actually check with one of the shop Wing Sheng, the ppl there mention got K mount, but personally I did not ask for it after I compare the price for the 2 lens

At TST Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 Macro - HK2850 around $515 (international warranty)
At Wing Sheng Tarmon 17-50mm F2.8 - HK2780 around $505 (international warranty). However Grey set will be cheaper around HK 2600

According to the ppl from TST, both lens is about the same. In HK, Sigma is more popular i heard (but not too sure). I guess in Singapore, Sigma is more Exp so most ppl went for Tarmon which make it more popular.
