wanted to buy a700 a while ago but for some stupid reason bought a different system but did not like it so sold it off and went down today with all the intention to buy the a700 but saw the a200 and was told that cz16-80 is likely to drop to about 1k after new year and now i am confuse. to make matter worse a300 and a350 will be available in march/april.
why should i buy the a700 instead of the a200? please help. i am interested in nature and travel photography. i don't think i need 5fps, the high iso of a200 seems good too and at the rate sony is releasing new models i will not be surprise if the a700 will be 'replaced' soon. And i need a camera to shoot over the new year period. your view pls... |

If money is not an issue, get the A700. The build is simply better.

You might wanna consider handling the 2 camera bodies. The A200 and A700 handles very differently. The small size of the A200 which makes it good for travel does not seem to fit my relatively large hands, so I feel I might not be able to hand hold it stable, especially when mounted to bigger and heavier lens.

if the a200 fits you well, can consider buying a200 + sony 18-250mm for travel photography, very good combo i feel

I feel that if you're concern about outgrowing the functionality of the A200 due to better skills in the near future, then go for the A700. A200, to me after playing briefly, is a simple camera. Ideal for those going towards DSLR. For the rest, A700 should satisfy. I'm still using the KM 5D, once I get hold of a list of lenses I'll definitely get the A700. |

I agree with the bro/sis here.
A200 is a good choice if you want to travel light, and it's basically great for daylight photography, and it's responsive enough for low light and events...A700 is a good step up if you are confident that your shooting requirements are beginning to intensify, but I think the A200 can keep up quite well for most situations. Have you tried your hands on them? ![]()

Went down to the shop with enough money to buy a700 but the boss (an old friend) told me to buy the a200. I tried it out and it is good, very responsive (just like the a700 i think), and the buttons are simple, logical and efficient. I bought the a200 with the dual lens kit, i know the 75-300 is a so so lens but the price is good. I had to struggle for a while to buy the a200 instead of the a700 but in the final analysis buying the a700 is just vanity for me. I also ordered the tamron 180 to compensate myself for not buying the a700. Now i will wait for the cz 16-80 price to drop, hopefully. Anyone want to sell me a minolta 50mm 1.7?

And yes, the a100 is a great camera... I'm holding onto mine.
![]() The a200 is awesome if you don't have a backup body. I already have mine, so I don't feel like changing. ![]()

I may be one of the rare few who swop my A100 for the A200.
Got it a on thursday, haven't really shot much with it, but given the higher trade in price I got for my A100 ($600+), the option to sell the kit lens ($150 brand new is reasonable), I am only looking at a further layout of $300. What has this $300 gotten me?
I guess it isn't really a bad deal. ![]() If I look at it from the 'shallow' point of view by comparing the upgrade with that of handphones, I am just getting a new piece of equipment to replace a older one. While there is really nothing wrong with the A100, with the price of the A200 being actually very low, it seems like a good option to change.
