yah! shouldn't the price be similar to the C/N versions?
The 50-150mm looks really good with the A300. Is the sigma 10-20mm available in Sony mount in singapore already? I read that the 10-20mm sigma doesn't have HSM for sony mount. |

not really. ssm/ hsm is "proprietary" to km/sony. although sigma had hsm lenses a long time ago if you looked at their website closely, you'd notice that its only for canon, nikon and sigma bodies. km was "not available/ not applicable". so that means next to nothing as far as we're concerned, so don't expect these to replace/ rival the ssm lenses.
good thing is the A700's body has a much improved AF mechanism, bad thing is this has caused problems/ breakages on some older lenses...

i don't believe they've ever reverse-engineered SSM (yes i'm aware they call it HSM), otw HSM should work on any A-mount body. no differing news on the sigma website. but it'd be great if A-mount users can enjoy HSM.

HSM has been around for quite some time. It is not reverse engineered, but their rendition of SSM/USM/SWM etc.

Secondly, HSM is not possible on every body... there must be communication between the body and the lens, particularly the AF module... hence Sigma could not produce a HSM lens for KM until the emergence of a reference design in the 70-200mm SSM G but they were reluctant to do so as KM was about to be sold off... and this is also why last year, Sigma issued a statement that they would produce HSM lenses for SONY only if they showed a clear road map of DSLR models... they needed to amortise the set-up to produce HSM lenses for SONY bodies so they needed large volumes of bodies to be sold as these lenses are still pretty niche products... So as far as I know.... the body must support the HSM/SSM/USM/SWM feature... this support was first seen on the Dynax 7 film body... therefore your KM SSM lenses will probably not work on earlier bodies... the body must be able to communicate with the lens... If u do a search on google, you will find that there are lots of Nikon and Canon users with plenty of compatbility issues with Sigma HSM lenses... the reason is that the reverse engineering is not perfect... that is also why Sigma is the only lens brand in the world (at least I think so) that allows you to rechip your lens so that it becomes compatible with a new body... Check out the link regarding which KM/SONY bodies are compatible with SSM/HSM: http://www.mhohner.de/minolta/bodies...lu=0&vg=0&sf=0 This is what I understand of this motor-in-lens issue... |

I owned 1 Sigma 50-150. It's definitely very useful and sharp also. At f2.8, it's possible to take pictures with good bokeh. Locally i think the price still aroung $1k. I bought mine at Taipei at $835.00. ![]()
