Depends on your budget and what sort of performance you are looking at.

You might want to try the Canon HV20 or HV30 (new model).

Alternatively, you can try the second hands CS markets if you're interested as well. There are a few cams upf or sale

try canon 720is..........its a fully auto/manual (compact to a certain extent) camera

it can do 640x320 in 30fps......with LP so time for 2gb card is around 30-40 i think....

570is does not do LP....

if really wanna Compact...........canon 860is should be good......

720is bad point is its flash recycle time......
its on 2 AA batt but bad consumption on akaline.....thus go for Endeloop to resolve the issue...

For most compact camera, you can't zoom in or out while taking video, only handful of models in the market has such feature.

I only know the Nokia P5000/P5100 has such capability:
1. 640x480 at 30 fps
2. Able to zoom in/out while taking video

Other forumers may fill in the brands and makes that can zoom in/out while taking video.

The problem with taking video using compact camera is the memory space.

No problems with the TX1 for zooming in & out while recording....... provided that you have a fast SD card...class 6 recommended.

i just thought to add a small point.

IMHO, for the average user who is not going to fool around much with controls and lighting will agree that a compact camera with recording abilities is much more user friendly and feasable since it can be carried in the pocket and point and shoot on the go.

Problem is the quality and the audio which may be insufficient for some but regarding storage media , the price for SD or memory stix are dropping really fast with bigger capacity released in the market. These would allow longer recording time and the compact cameras are offering more options as they are released.

i use a old pentax optio s 3 for recording 60sec clips and it does a wonderful job with audio and zooming capabilities but of course its jurassic age now. didnt have to worry bout tapes or mini dvd and i could delete which clip i felt was not required on the go.Playback and exporting is easy via Pc usb 2.0

Like TS,i will be looking for a new compact cam with better recording capabilities in the near future..who knows what might come next?
