http://www.dpreview.com/news/0801/08...fujif100fd.asp

LOL F50fd just launched not long ago, here it comes, F100fd

cannot imagine the rate of F-series is progressing when i'm still clinging onto my F11

IMO, the key factor is the pricing..
the f50fd pricing and its IQ vs f31fd left me wondering is it worth to get the replacement or not.. now we get a F100fd with 28mm..

definitely worth considering, provided the price is not rocket high..

Great! F100fd answers partially my wish list. However the picture quality, purple fringes performance and battery life are still unknown. Also, still no panoramic mode. Without AE lock or manual exposure mode, this made shooting panorama with this camera impractical.

Heh... I'm holding out with my F11 as well. I think the best F series model so far was the F30 (it stayed at 6MP and the IQ was very good, the later models just increased the megapixel count while compromising the IQ, especially at higher ISOs). This new F100fd looks promising as it goes wider - need to wait and see the IQ.

But think I might wait until somebody releases a compact camera with a DX sized sensor - maybe be next year.

ISO 12800 will be superb for street photography, no doubt. The question I have is how responsive the AF will be at this sort of lighting level, without the focus assist light ruining the moment.

If the AF is fast and accurate, ISO 12800 at reduced resolution is still very usable - a secondary camera for photojournalists!

This was what I saw over at another website
The FinePix F100fd will debut in March 2008 at a retail price of $379.95.

Looks like a good price point

really wonder how would the performance of "wide dynamic range", as stated in the anouncement. not sure how is the new Super CCD HR VIII compared to the lengendary Super CCD SR.

Cheers!

Just hope it improves on the F30 in terms of ISo ability and battery life.

Yeah, was holding on to F11 last time when F30/31 came out, hoping to skip a generation and get better model with SD support and anti vibration on the next. But when F50 arrived, it was a disappointment as the IQ was not on par with F30/31, and the battery life wasn't that great either (comparatively the battery life of F11 is nothing short of amazing, I could go on to a trip for 2 weeks, snap all the way and come back with more then half of the battery left without charging). Hope F100fd will do better.

Just checked out the spec at Fuji Japanese site. The F100fd is rated only 230 pics per full charge tested according to CIPA standard (same as F50fd), comparing to 500 pics of the F11.

while its too early to say anything...
the f100fd uses the same battery as the f50fd (NP-50, smaller and less 'juice') while the legendary f30/f31fd uses a much bigger NP-95 battery

edit
the 'poor' battery life is probably due to the CCD-shift Image stabilization in this camera (and the f50fd)..

too bad for the battery life, but still comparable to other brands.

fuji canada -- english version
http://fujifilm.ca/x15934.xml

i downloaded the brochure, it mentions that this cam has manual shooting mode (but not really sure what does that mean).

Hmm.. so can the image stabilization be turned off on the F50fd? If so it might be more interesting as long battery life is quite an important feature for me since most of my travel destinations do not have electricity.
