do go a little closer next time if you have the chance. there was a stage like this last year at the open house as well, they didn't restrict anyone from going forward to take shots.

here are some tips:
1) work within the limits of your lens, do go close if there's a chance to do so. 2) keep distractions out of your frame like human head obstructions to even speakers on the floor of the stage. 3) capture eye contact shots with the subject. 4) fill the frame, don't give too much empty space. say if you were to shoot from your distance, maybe a telephoto zoom would be good for it. the blur seems to come from your camera itself instead of the subject, do consider using the 1/focal length guideline and try to shoot over 1/100 to freeze motion at least. if you don't mind here are some noob shots i took for last year's open house. (actually i've posted them before) ![]() ![]() ![]() hope that helps. ![]() |

usually there's always ample space for the official photographer to cover the stage event, if you can have access to it, then you don't have to worry so much about blocking others. like elfvin said, stay low... and change position from time to time as well.

Make full use of your 55-200mm len. Shift your position and get up close as possible.
