I understand that Dynax 9 is considered as the pro line of cameras, while the Dynax 7 is like the advanced, but not yet pro kind of camera.
May I know what is it about the Dynax 9 that makes it cost so much more than the Dynax 7, other than the straightforward things I see when comparing the table of specs between the 2 cameras. For eg. Dynax 9 has faster shuttle speed, but surely that's not enough for 1 to shell out that much money to get the Dynax 9. Its also interesting to note the Dynax 7 has so much rave reviews but we hardly hear anything of the Dynax 9. Thank you for any advice. |

check out this article. it's a shame Minolta did not market the Dynax 7 (or Maxxum 7) as much as Nikon or Canon would have. probably the only camera that will make people switch from N or C. |

go up to the Minolta showroom at 6th floor, Funan Center, and have a feel of both the 7 and 9. the 9 feels much more solid and reassuring.
the 7 is an excellent camera will lots of features, but probably for a someone who just needs a real workhorse, the 9 fits the bill. |

with the digital technology becoming more and more affordable, the dilemma I have is whether to wait for Minolta to launch their DSLR (which means wait until I old), get a Nikon or canon system DSLR (which will be expensive) or invest money in an expensive advanced amateur film camera body.

Yes...I agree with munfai. Also took Munfai's advise and bought myself a vertical grip. Made an already excellent feel even better! However, it does get a little heavier and you will have problem fitting your camera (with the grip and lens) into those cutsey crumpler bags. Am I also not wrong to say that the metering is pretty accurate? Also, when used with the 50mm 1.4, it HAS really super fast AF. The broucher isn't bluffing!

How does the Dynax 7 work with 3rd party lens? Are there compatibility problems?
I've read from some overseas users' reviews that some of their 3rd party lens have to be re-chipped to work properly with their Dynax 7. If so, where and how do I get it done in Singapore? Do the 3rd party lens' company provide such a service? |

Most of the newer models from third party lens are compatible with the 7. If not, you can always get them rechipped at their outlets...example...sigma. I have called them to check and they said that they can rechip. In fact if you tell them the model, they should be able to tell you if it needs rechipping. Trick is...you have to get the right person to ask...

Personally, I haven't experience this...thats also due to the fact that i have mostly minolta lens...the sigma which i have ( a 70-200) works well. What I am sharing is based on experiences I have picked up from other forums.
Thing is...if the lens is not compatible, it will try to focus and then (suddenly) lock up and freeze. Anyone out there who knows more details? |

I thought re-chipping was only an issue with Sigma lens? I have never heard of other 3rd party brands requiring re-chipping at all. And for that matter, my impression is that re-chipping for Sigma lens are done only for their HSM series lens due to incompatibility with newer bodies that are released from Nikon and Canon. Minolta doesn't seem to have this problem?? |

I noticed Cathay Photo and MS colour sell their Dynax 7 with QD. I can't even get 1 without QD!
I find it very strange because having a date on your prints totaly ruins the picture. This is very unseeming for an advanced camera like Dynax 7. Can I switch of the QD feature? Otherwise, should I still search for a non-QD Dynax 7? |

there is no such thing as a dynax 7 without QD. all dynax 7s have the ability to print date information. you just need to switch it off if you don't want the date imprint. |

thank you. Its very reassuring to hear I can switch off the date function, cos surely I don't want my dates to be imprinted on my slides. Cos when I bought my Dynax 404si, I specifically took the camera without date function.
