Tried the camera.
Everything seems pretty fast, shooting, focussing, power on, saving burst mode images, etc. Only thing against it is the size. the right hand grip feels big in my hand. Weightwise, it feels light but no batteries were loaded yet. When batteries are put in, the balance might be better. It's quite alright to go during lunch time. Most of the other people were looking at the other models The lady who attended to me admitted that the people looking for the camera probably knows a lot of it and told me to ask her only when I encounter any problems ![]() Would have to think hard about the size issue though. Its bulk would mean I need to bring a big camera bag to bring it around ![]() Was told that launch would be 31st May. |

Thanks for the info, mpenza.
Size i guess for me should be ok. Personally feel that the cam will feels more 'solid' and stable if it is bigger and with a better grip. But i think you still need to take in consideration of its size after fixing the lens adapter on. |

Went again after work and played with the camera for ~20 mins to find out its performance under poor lighting conditions
felt a bit guilty making the poor sales girl stand beside me for the whole period ![]() Pics taken at ISO 800/1600 take a bit longer to process compared to lower ISO settings. Taking pics at 6MP, fine continuous modes would also take some time to store but nothing alarming (considering the filesize). Controls are quite easy, the command dial facilitates easy adjustment of values. The focussing is still very fast in the evening. No unnecessary hunting even at full zoom (F3.1). In macro mode, you can only zoom a bit. And under super macro, the lens is fixed at wide angle. So, to take macros of insects (e.g. bees, spiders) from a (safe) distance, you'll need to use close-up lens/filters. Also discovered that the lens is very dirty after the few days of roadshow definitely could do with a UV filter. |

Went there at around 7plus after work just now. Tried out the cam for more than 10 mins. The feel and grip is good, very SLR like. And the weight is unbelievably light (thou without batts yet).
Focusing was indeed fast, and the sky was getting a little dark aledy. The focusing is as fast, if not faster than the 707 IMO. Zooming was extremely fast too. I especially like the manual focus ring. Very useful and accurate (beginning to like using it) The function buttons outside indeed saved alot of time to enter the menu for settings. The EVF is cool too. I find the resolution is very good, with minimal motion lag, even in low light conditions. Hmm.. i tot i managed to use macro mode with 6X zoom? Funny, i zoom fully then pressed the macro button. I rem it still stays at 6X. Maybe I was wrong... But i think its ok, coz using a +4 in normal mode with 6X should be the same.haha, yes, paisay to let the pretty sales girl waiting too. She kept leaning forward over the counter anxiously to see if i needed help. I thanked her after that but she apologised for not being able to provide any help at all. ![]() Last edited by azone; 23rd May 2002 at 08:57 PM. |

that's an idea. the only fear is that the increased demand will up the price rather than reduce it

and $190 for the Fujifilm wide-angle converter. guy said that many people have placed orders for the S602Z already but thay have a big shipment of 200, so should be enough ![]() MS Color haven't decided yet but would definitely give some discounts. I'll probably go around on 3 or 4 June to check on prices..... unless I manage to finish my preparations then I might go earlier on 31 May or 1 June.Anyone knows whether Mustafa sells the wide-angle converter cheap? |

I finally went down to AP to place an order on Sunday. The price was about 1200. Deal transacted in less than 10 minutes. Well, been thinking about this camera since April and it can really drive one crazy.

great, jeff! Remember to post some reviews up here when you've gotten hold of it. I'm still waiting for my money to come in, sigh. Actually good lah, might wait and see what new coolpixes Nikon is going to come up with, maybe there'll be something better.
