Salutations forum members!
I'm not new to this forum but I haven't really been posting much. Therefore I decided to improve my participation with a photo a day, and I'll try hard to keep up. By the way, if my photos don't show, do tell me and I'll fix them. Using Flickr at the moment. I must say that many members here have fantastic photos! I have lots to learn and I appreciate feedback, so please critique and comment on my pictures if you wish! Shall not write too much; thus begins my poem a day, and my picture a day thread. Picture 0001; _ 11 Jan 2008 ![]() ---- Little do men perceive what solitude is, and how far it extendeth. For a crowd is not company, and faces are but a gallery of pictures, and talk but a tinkling cymbal, where there is no love. - Francis Bacon Last edited by loneoceans; 20th January 2008 at 06:15 PM. francis bacon eh
i like the abstraction in this shot. nice start! welcome to apad and i hope you keep posting throughout the year, it's fun, you'll see. ![]() anyways, just to note - perhaps you might want to edit picture0001 to reflect the day posted (12 Jan 08).. it's just a rule to allow for easier management of the galleries, i suppose. please go through the apad gallery guidelines . also, you seem to have double-posted the thread.. to delete the multiple thread, go to the first post in the thread, look for "Thread Tools" select the "delete thread" bullet.. and click on "Perform Action" accordingly. cheers! |

Thanks for the welcome.
I've removed the double-post and fixed the date. On to my second photo!Picture 0002; Radiance 12 Jan 2008 ![]() People often describe dusk and dawn as the golden moments. Sometimes everything lines up right, and you happen to be at the right place with a camera, and the moment is captured. I got this shot while walking home one day. The cloud was moving to the left; I ran up the overhead bridge, waited for the right time, and took a picture. The moment was gone in a couple of seconds. Perhaps that's why they're called the golden moments. --- The sunset is herself I never noticed it Before Until today -Aldo Kraas Last edited by loneoceans; 20th January 2008 at 06:16 PM. |

To Bcool and ssping83, thanks!
Picture 0003; Beautiful Fragility 13 Jan 2008 ![]() At the corner of the wall lay a spider and a lovely web. The afternoon sun was low in the sky. As I went in for a closer look, the sunlight lined up perfectly and I composed my shot. The next day, the rain came, and washed it away. Sometimes, beautiful things are fragile, and we should treasure them. Like this spider's web; or like love, friendship, and life. --- The spider, dropping down from twig, Unfolds a plan of her devising, A thin premeditated rig To use in rising. And all that journey down through space, In cool descent and loyal hearted, She spins a ladder to the place From where she started. Thus I, gone forth as spiders do In spider's web a truth discerning, Attach one silken thread to you For my returning. - E. B. White Last edited by loneoceans; 20th January 2008 at 06:16 PM. |

Thanks Ah_K!
Picture 0004; Reflection 14 Jan 2008, Monday ![]() What is life but a fairytale? p.s. watch Pan's Labyrinth. --- I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions. Whatever I see I swallow immediately Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike. I am not cruel, only truthful ‚ The eye of a little god, four-cornered. Most of the time I meditate on the opposite wall. It is pink, with speckles. I have looked at it so long I think it is part of my heart. But it flickers. Faces and darkness separate us over and over. Now I am a lake. A woman bends over me, Searching my reaches for what she really is. Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon. I see her back, and reflect it faithfully. She rewards me with tears and an agitation of hands. I am important to her. She comes and goes. Each morning it is her face that replaces the darkness. In me she has drowned a young girl, and in me an old woman Rises toward her day after day, like a terrible fish. - Mirror, Sylvia Plath Last edited by loneoceans; 20th January 2008 at 06:17 PM. |

No need to bump thread; I mean I'll do that automatically everyday since it's APAD! ![]() Oh yup thanks. The scenery was nicer than it looks in the picture, really; I think everyone should go climb a mountain. I learnt a lot on that trip. Now a photo for today! Picture 0006; Steps 16 Jan 2008, Wednesday ![]() Stairs fly as straight as hawks; Or else in spirals, curve out of curve, pausing At a ledge to poise their wings before relaunching. Stairs sway at the height of their flight Like a melody in Tristan; Or swoop to the ground with glad spread of their feathers Before they close them. They curiously investigate The shells of buildings, A hollow core, Shell in a shell. Useless to produce their path to infinity Or turn it to a moral symbol, For their flight is ambiguous, upwards or downwards as you please; Their fountain is frozen, Their concertina is silent. - A.S.J. Picture 0007; White Spider ---17 Jan 2008, Thursday ![]() Sometimes, all we need to do is to look around us a little more closely. This was taken awhile ago when I was walking around in the park. I happened to be looking around the leaves, quite randomly, and I saw this little spider. It took a while for the spider to get into the right place, but it was worth the wait. Ariadne, mother spider, spins her web. This is no work. The silken threads just follow where she goes where the wind blows. Ariadne sings and laughs, she never turns around she never sees the true expansion mastery in tapestry all the worlds encompassed and depicted here. Ariadne lives and breathes, sleeps and drifts the timeless tides wakes refreshed to travel yet again - a shining ocean or a violet moon has caught her eye. - The Spider, Silvia Hartmann Last edited by loneoceans; 20th January 2008 at 06:19 PM. |

Picture 0008; Self Portrait - Shadows 18 Jan 2008, Friday ![]() Taken at a beach with very contrasting lights. --- He dances and he flickers He taunts me and he laughs He disappears and shrinks and morphs And I always by him, pass He says that I'm the shadow That I'm the one who follows him I'm the one that shrinks and grows And I away when it gets dim I tell him that he's wrong That I'm the one who's real and strong And yet the whole day long I listen to his tired song And I begin to wonder Why am I so real? Is the only prerequisite of life The ability to feel? And so I begin to wonder As the lantern light grows slim Am I the owner of this life? Or does that fall to him? - The Shadow, Shana Armstrong Last edited by loneoceans; 20th January 2008 at 06:19 PM. |

Picture 0009; Beach with Cresent 19 Jan 2008, Saturday ![]() Taken at Bintan. What a lovely beach. The sky was exceptional that night - not too common in Singapore I guess! --- Louder than gulls the little children scream Whom fathers haul into the jovial foam; But others fearlessly rush in, breast high, Laughing the salty water from their mouthes-- Heroes of the nursery. The horny boatman, who has seen whales And flying fishes, who has sailed as far As Demerara and the Ivory Coast, Will warn them, when they crowd to hear his tales, That every ocean smells of tar. - The Beach, Robert Graves Last edited by loneoceans; 20th January 2008 at 06:19 PM. |

Picture 0010; Forest Dream 20 Jan 2008, Sunday ![]() Wandering in the forest of dreams. Taken during the descent of Mt. Kinabalu. --- 'Tis said that when The hands of men Tamed this primeval wood, And hoary trees with groans of woe, Like warriors by an unknown foe, Were in their strength subdued, The virgin Earth Gave instant birth To springs that ne'er did flow That in the sun Did rivulets run, And all around rare flowers did blow The wild rose pale Perfumed the gale And the queenly lily adown the dale (Whom the sun and the dew And the winds did woo), With the gourd and the grape luxuriant grew. So when in tears The love of years Is wasted like the snow, And the fine fibrils of its life By the rude wrong of instant strife Are broken at a blow Within the heart Do springs upstart Of which it doth now know, And strange, sweet dreams, Like silent streams That from new fountains overflow, With the earlier tide Of rivers glide Deep in the heart whose hope has died-- Quenching the fires its ashes hide,-- Its ashes, whence will spring and grow Sweet flowers, ere long, The rare and radiant flowers of song! - The Forest Reverie, Edgar Allan Poe Last edited by loneoceans; 20th January 2008 at 06:20 PM. |

To JediForce4ever, thanks! The world is not scarce of beauty - we just have to pay a bit more attention!
![]() Picture 0011; Cat in a park at night. 21 Jan 2008, Monday ![]() Dark nights conceal dark secrets. They say the eyes are windows of the soul. But what if you can't see them? This was taken at a park; it was difficult to get the exposure right, and I had to creep up carefully to the cat, taking care not to scare it away, and hope that it would hold its pose. --- How Beautiful You are In my mind As I see your loveliness For the first time I see a perfect sculpture Of heavenly features The Gods above Have bestowed upon you Dark Hair, Mysterious Eyes. Features Of a Goddess I wonder if the Gods Above In the court Of Zues Will become jealous If ever they knew My heart skipped a beat The moment I laid My eyes upon Their most prescious Creation. Your beautiful face Is an image That will dwell eternally Within my treasured thoughts Your sensuous dark eyes Stare deep into my soul Making me feel aglow Before your presence. Will I survive If ever you embrace me Within the softness Of your arms? Will you press my head Against your heavenly bosoms? Will you kiss my forehead Even though We've just met? Will I be blest tonight As I'll see you In my dreams? After the sandman Dust my eyes. - Dark Eyes, Mysterious Eyes, William Bonilla Last edited by loneoceans; 21st January 2008 at 12:35 AM. |
