Hi peeps, just looking for some suggestions for 2nd body. Currently I have a D80 kit ... which is fully utilised by my gerl & me. We're both just an 'amatuer' and her interest had just started and she's really into it from the way she hounded me for the cam. So now, thot of getting a 2nd cam ... should I go for an older model D70s for backup, get another D80 since the price has dropped significantly, go for a used D200 or straight to D300?
D300 is just a thot nia and I know it'll be an overkill for either of us. Dun mind if you suggest any other model than my D80, state reasons hor ...Thanks in advance for any helpful input ya. ![]()

hahaha, i will recommend u get another D80 cause u can share memory cards, being a D70 user i did tot wat 2nd body to get, D200 or D80 then found out that i can reuse my CF card and D70 battery with D200 is really a plus point. Else have to reinvest on memory card again.

New D300 if u want to use your existing D80 as backup. Or a used D200 is preferred.

from D40 to D3, take a pick, any camera will do the job well as a 2nd body.

Would suggest a used D200 or a D300 if you have the dough.
Not much point getting another D80. |

Fuji Pro!
But the suggestion to get an SD card based camera is worth considering. Not only for cost savings, but convenience. |

I say don't worry so much about the memory cards. Because sooner or later... I think you'd be owning a camera body that uses CF. Anyway the prices of storage media are not ridiculously expensive... and plenty of other devices can use SD.
Either a S5pro or D300 would be my pick. If budget is a real concern, I think the D70s would be a real good buy.

If you have the money I would suggest a D300 very good camera with way better noise control over the previous models, many other feature improvements too. Personally I like the large high and resolution LCD display. Expecting to pay around SGD$2500 to SGD$2600 for brand new set.
If you are on tighter budget, I would suggest a used D200 (Ain't too expensive to get a brand new one though). Expecting to pay around SGD$1500-SGD$1700 for a used set depending on age and condition in B&S section. If you are really tight on budget then get another D80 then. Note that for models D80 and below, there are packages comes with Kit lens. The D200 and D300 only comes with a body, so you'll might need to get additional lenses. The D200/300 uses CF cards which aren't much of a problem if you buy a CF-SD adaptor so you could share memory cards from your D80. Last edited by Override2Zion; 10th January 2008 at 01:51 PM. |

i suggest u get more lenses 1st, cos if u just have the 18-135 and the 12-24, it might be kinda hard using 2 cams with those 2 lenses
however, if u feel tt uve already decided on getting another cam, id recommend the d200. its semi-pro, and has a better build than the d70s, d80 etc (hence the price diff). but if u can afford, tt would be great otherwise, a d70s body might be worth considering too. its a good cam no doubt, but after using the d80, the downgrade might be significant ![]() |

Actually, you may consider getting a new D200 from CP. They are selling it at $1899 after GST.

Thanks for all your replies ... really appreciated.
Does it make sense to get a good used D200 and let the D80 be the 2nd body? ![]()

IMO you should get another D80, so can share cards, but if lotsa moolah, no harm getting a used D200, or even a D300 :S

Thanks guys for all the positive advice/suggestions/help ... 3-in-1
Just to let all above who helped me know ... I may suddenly have another option and that is to plunge directly for a new D300 Hahaa!!! I gotta say I was 'poisoned' by my much reading over this new beast and some comments made by 'pro' here. Time for a try-out then decide and guess my D80 may have a new owner now. ![]() Thanks ya ... ![]()
