Default GPS receiver for D200/D300

Hi All.

Anyone can recommend GPS receiver which can work with D200/D300 ?

I am interested in getting Holux M-1000 or GR-241, since it can be paired with PDA. Wonder whether it can directly communicate with D200/D300 (i doubt it).

Look at this a very good write up by xtemujin

I have tried out the N2 di-GPS twice for aerial photography job and I am very pleased with it.

1. Very easy to use with the nikon D3 (should be same for the D200 and D300) just plug in and set the GPS mode in the camera to on. And it works

2. Very fast acquisition.

3. Fast refreshing of position as the chopper flies.

4. No need to stick the camera or GPS out of the chopper to acquire signal.

Worth every penny. I am going to buy one.

FYI, if you wish to get the Bjorn Rorslet custom version which has an additional MC-21 connector, it is now available.

Yes, the N2 is great. I've even used it in commercial airliners, the only thing about this is that you need to sit by a window.

Since the middle of last year, DawnTech re-jigged the N2 and is supposedly now a low power drain module.

The only URL on the customized version will be one for the review on the di-GPS by Bjorn Rorslet

The MC-21 customized version is not available as a purchase option because of the scarcity of the MC-21 thus it is made only upon customer's request. I enquired on the customized version 2~3 months ago and was only told yesterday that it is now available. You will need to write in to make an order and the cost of the device alone is USD 310.

Hi Randius,

You mentioned that the customized version is now available and that the cost of the device alone is US$310. Which device are you referring to?

David
Pardon me if I had caused any confusion. I am referring to the customized di-GPS which has a MC-21 10-pin connector as shown in Bjorn Rorslett's review on the device.

Randius,

Thanks for your clarification. With the US$ weakening in strength, US$310 seems reasonable. Can you please advise who at Dawntech did you enquire with on the pricing? I am keen on ordering one. Is anybody else interested?

There are currently two BT receiver for Nikon cameras with ten pin connector, that I know.

http://www.foolography.com/unleashedxmas.php

https://ecommerce.redhensystems.com/...-blue2can.aspx

The main issue with BT receiver is the price as for the Red Hen Systems Blue2CAN cost US$279 while the Foolography cost 199€ which does not include the BT GPS.

For those that are wondering what is a di-GPS with a MC-21 ten pin connector.

I heard some rumours of a local distributor bringing in this GPS. If it is true, it would be good probably may be cheaper like saving shipping cost.

Anyway I am holding on my purchase till end of the month or when the rumours is confirmed/dispel.

For those who are interested in ordering the GPS together, I would suggest that to go thru PM with each other, as the rules here do not permit MO except in the MO forum. Hope you guys get the drift

That is good to know that there will be a local distributor for the GPS receiver.

Having read the info on the Geopic II, I think this is even better than the N2 di-GPS.

Has anyone here tried this product before?

Same chipset, but nicer features .... now need to wait for one that has directional indication too since the D300 and D3 now can support this feature.

What Map are you using with the DawnTech GPS?

Talk to CM Lui at info@di-gps.com, Mr Lui has been extremely helpful and accomodating to me.

I nearly 'replaced' mine with the modifed MC-21 version, but decided against it as it becomes quite bulky. So, I got the version packaged with the modified MC-30 instead. Now, I have an MC-30, MC-35 and MC-36 sitting at home collecting dust. I've never used the programmable timer even in my MC-20, do don't need the features of the MC-36.

These GPS modules only continually send the co-ordinates, there are no displays and no maps to upload.
