I'm thinking of getting this one to fill in the gap between my 12-24 f4 and 70-200 f2.8. I've read a lot of revues but all out of date since it's no longer made. So I'd like to know who has it along with your thoughts and experiences. Also if anybody knows where I can find a good one used or new please let me know.

slightly off topic. I have the 28-70mm, love it. Very cheap nowsadays ($200+?)
I read somewhere that the 28-80 has better handling, but cannot remember the details. much more expensive though. |

u mean the gold-ring version of the 28-80/2.8?
i've used both the canon and nikon version b4. built like a tank and reliable. AF speed is a bit slow since it is screw-motor driven. some softness at f2.8, but gets better at f4 onwards. for my canon version, i had to go through 2 sets. 1st set has horrible backfocusing. had to bring it back to CP to change. remember i had to argue with them cos they din believe it backfocus. had to show them sample pics from my 10D b4 they grudgingly change it for me. strangely enough, i had no such problems with the nikon set. ![]()
