    Never mix friendship with money.

I had a very close group of 6 secondary schoolmates, so close that we would wait for one another at the bus terminal before going to school. We also tried to meet up and return home together as we stayed near. This went on for almost 6 years, with soccer every Sunday morning, outings during the holidays.

Then, they started to play poker, betting on football and that's where all the borrowing and lending starts. Now, all of them are enemies with one another. Sigh!

depend on how well you know your friend.

maybe you know that friend is really in need of money, eg. his family member was hospitalised and has problem in paying the hospital fees.
i guess if you can afford it, most probably you will lend him his money.
and i quite sure that you will also ask him to take his time to pay back...

my first rule, never ever lend money to a gambler (whether friend or relative)...

I will lend if it's really urgent but of cos be prepared that i will never see my $$ again.

Once had a friend who borrowed money from us cos he claimed that his dad was facing financial difficulties and he needs $ to pay his school fees. In the end, he used the $$ to pay for the down payment of a second hand car and the rest on skirt chasing!!!!! So far,i've only gotten back a small fraction of my $$. I'm considered lucky cos some of the guys did not get a single cent back.

Normally there will be NO good ending when one start to lend money to friends/relatives/siblings........
Give or lend money only when you know the real reason why and how the money will be used .... like medicine, food, life-saving situation, etc (and only when they are real situation) ...
    always the Light, .... always.

this is very true. even u think it's ok he doesnt returns but he'll feel paiseh and avoid u. so best is dont bother to lend at all.

    Depends on the amount.
If the amount is reasonable then yes i will unless he/she has a backlist.

Usually i'll give because it is a time to put the person to the test and has allow me to give few people the boot.

    1) How not to borrow money for house?

    2) Coincidentally, I'm in the middle of of getting some money back via the courts at the present moment.

A lives in a condo, has two cars, has membership in a good golf club.
B lives in a 3-room old flat, has no car and does not play golf.
    A borrows from B.

    Not $20.
    Tens of thousands of $.

A is the type who has a lifestyle to maintain and put up a false front.

    This is not fiction.

i agree with most that once u lend u shldn't expect it to come back to you, even if its just a few dollars.

Yet thinking again, if i'm the borrower, i have the integrity to remember that I owe someone a few dollars. And i'll return it. I remember once I was still a sec sch student i was buying chicken rice at a hawker and I was 20cents short but the auntie still sold to me, i returned it the nxt day and she was pretty surprise. Lending hence owing is based on trust i suppose.

lend only to whom you really understand and trust...yet if its a huge sum like above mention. Its not a risk worth taking!

If you lend money to a friend you will:

    1. Pay to know one of the characters of the friend.(Both positive and negative)
    2. You may lose a friend.
    3. Must ask. if not most of the time you will not get it back.

First question would be, what is the money used for?

    Reason - Action
life/death - would confirm, then would try my best to help.

to - rest got to see...

    gamble -

Some would take once to realise, most would take couple of times and the rest would never know... (Lending money to help, not to destory a person's life)

For most charities the money is being used to do good (except when used for gold taps ). Are you sure your friend is using it for something that is his own good? Like maybe it's to help his education, pull him through a bad patch after an accident; then yes. If some party or to buy a TV... nope.
