Hi fellow CS'ers I'm a newbie here, kindly help to advise on the best flash unit for e-410. I was targetting fl-36r but i've read it has a slow flash recycle time compare to fl-50r. Is the fl-36r Flash recycle time is in tolerable time??

No need to get the R model (remote) as 410 does not have remote flash trigger built-in like e-3, simply buy the normal one. FL50 is better of course but more expensive. Read other threads.

It depends how tolerant you are and at what flash power output you often use, but from all the complaints I read about 'slow' recharging of the 36/36R I think you should just bite the bullet and get the FL-50/50R, or at least get a 2nd hand.

Best depends on what you shoot...personally I have no issue with the charge time of the FL-36 since I didn't want the bulk of the FL-50 (considering you're using an E-410 you might not want it either).
If I was doing shooting where I needed rapid charge I WOULD go for the FL-50 with an EXTERNAL high voltage battery pack. Note that when I'm doing studio shots I use monolights (strobes) on stands that are plugged into the wall outlet, and charge almost instantly, but they cost $600 each (I use three of them). |

like mike said... its really what u shoot.
And prob stick to this 2 models... why? cause u will want to use TTL metering... As for recharging time... unless you get the ext pack with FL-50 you will still have to wait a 1-2 sec before firing again. And also you don't really want to continously burst ur flash just for fun... kills the bulb prematurely. In terms of size i thought the 36 was a much better size.... the 50 is alittle big even on the 510... so u have the "top heavy" feeling. prob will fit the E3 better... but i'm glad i got the 50... though its a little heavier than the 36.

I just bought the FL-36r 2 days ago (for my E-510). Personally I find that the slower recharging time is not an issue because I tend to look at the LCD to preview the results of my shots anyway. Also note that the longest time is taken only if the shot requires the full intensity. Many a times it will only require half or quarter intensity thus reducing the recharging time to only 1 to 2 secs.
My advise would be to go for the "r" version since it's more future proof. I'm hoping that the successor to the E-410/510 will have wireless capabilities. |

grab a pack of eneloops and try.
The recycle time is much faster although it has less juice. |
