I am not sure if this has been posted before? If so I am sorry.
How can I open the shutter of E510? Not able to find it on the manual? Any advise? Thanks! |

I think you need a remote and set the shutter to bulb. You can read on the manual regarding "BULB".

'Bulb' mode is the only way you can leave the shutter open for as long as you want. Get the RM-UC1 cable release if you do not want to hold on to the shutter. Or alternative, buy the cheaper version of the RM-1 remote to open and close the shutter.

Well, just be realistic about how long you want the shutter to stay open. If it's for star trails, dSLRs may not exactly be the weapon of choice. Besides, exposures longer than 30-60 secs may give you a goodly bit of noise.

i did try with iso 100 for about 8 mins expo... with NR and NF both off.
wasn't quite bad... but i got a few hot spots after my 5th shot... should have let the sensors cooled off a little in between shots... but its really quite hard to find an really dark place in sg... sigh... aeroplane are a common nuisance... ![]()

A note about using the RM-1 for bulb control...remember that the wireless remote DOES emit light so although YOU can't see it the camera does record the light pulses on the image, so you need to make sure not to point the remote at the lens to close the shutter but instead to point it close to the IR sensor (on the E-510 it's the window on the grip, a mistake on Olympus' part compared to where it used to be on previous bodies).
Personally I own both the wireless and wired remotes, and use them both in different situations. |
