Will be traveling, dun wan too much weight.
Is it good for portraiture ? Is the DOF too much ? Is the bokeh good ? All I see are mostly birding pics, hope to see samples of other subjects. |

I don't know, I brought this to Vietnam and in the end I used the kit lens 14-42 and 11-23 more than 70-300, infact..I have not done a shot with this. Kinda wasted

I would hazard an opinion that the 70-300 is not a good 1st or 2nd lens for general travelling photos, unless u wanna take birds or something. For budget lens, I think the 14-42 and the 40-150 would do well enough. If u got the money, it could be the 12-16 or the 50-200.

else u could go for 50-200 and 14-54/14-60 combo.... 50-200 is very heavy though but it really produces fantastic results... i sold mine away cos of the weight... abit regret now though hee |

I got mine for $540 at Alan Photo. There was decent service too. It was quite a lucky day for me.

It didnt took me long to decide to sell it. Simply a lens to occupy my cabinet. After buying it for 1 week, the only time i used it is for shooting moon(see here). If it is within your budget, i strongly recommend you to buy a ZD 50-200. a more versatile lens. Lightning fast AF. Example taken with 50-200 at 200mm below(not very fantastic shots as I'm still a noob);

Methinks the lens can be had for $525-540. As for practicality, do you really need/want to shoot macros or extreme telephoto shots on travel? If the answer is yes, please bring the 70-300mm. To me, tho, the 14-42mm and new 40-150mm would be the ultimate light and versatile kit. I wouldn't go without the 40-150mm since the 40-70mm gap is really where many of the considered portraits will be. I mean, if you're a portrait specialist, you'd probably be better off with the 50mm f2?
