Default SB800 compatibility q

I had a q for nikon users. my friend's a nikon user and he was telling me that the SB800 is the best flash unit around and that even canon users use it. So i was wondering how compatible with canon is it? How much control do you lose if you use it on a canon sys?

i have used the sb800 on my 10d before. the output is more consistent than my 550ex - presumably because the sb800 functions as an auto flash with flash aperture control. you will lose the e-ttl or e-ttl2 functionality but i think its no big loss.

Hmm maybe try a metz. It should work better with a canon.

The question here is usage of a SB800 with a Canon body. Why bring metz into the picture?

Probably only a single pin trigger. The center pin only. Thus they must dial it in manually, IIRC.

Not much advantage in using the nikon speedlight on a canon body if you ask me. The big plus for Nikon's speedlights is the excellent TTL which is consistent...

Having only used the 580 EXII, I find Canon's a little erratic. Preferring to dial in the output manually... Maybe I'm not too used to it after being pampered by Nikon.
