This is a real life comparison between the Canon 1DMkIII and the E-3 taken by one of my friends.

1D Mark3 instead of 1Ds Mark3...
I'm on the way to arrange direct comparison from Nikon D3, Canon EOS 1Ds Mark3, Olympus E-3 and Sony Alpha A700. Hoping will be done on Week 4 at the latest. keep stay tune... |

The difference is quite stark.
An exposure problem on the 1DmkIII? Or processing problem? The shadow details on the Canon can't be THAT bad.

因此,这不是很严谨的对比测试,窥一班而知全豹吧。
the author already stated that it's not in the sense a "serious" comparism... also these test shots were taken with common settings that we non-pro ppl would like to use finally I really like the colour of E-3, so much colour details in the pix. will have more faith in oly? hehe... |

Yup, what is like is the real world test of the cameras and note all the details in the shadows of images taken with the Olympus E-3. By no means that the 1DMkIII is a lousy camera.

Gentle reminder : Don't let this thread become another flame thread or a childish "my dad will beat your dad" comparison. Just copying a thread that had someone who took the trouble to haul all those gear to shoot in the open. That photographer merely wanted to show the difference and let the viewer make up their own mind which is a system for them, not which is better. So keep it that way.

I agree with microcosm. My view is whatever the brand of the camera, the end product is the most important. In Clubsnap, i believe we have seen outstanding pics taken by non DSLR too.
Actually if you look closely at those comparison shots, the shutter speed is not similar, that could be why some of the pics are under exposured for the 1DMKIII. |

I think the comparison is a bit strange? They use the oly to meter then take a shot. Then using the same setting they put it on the Mk3 and take a shot that is underexpose
![]() If they reverse the process and meter with the Mk3, then use the same setting on the oly, then all the oly pics will be over exposed. Don't understand the test. |

I will take this with a pinch of salt.
Actually, now I feel, there is no need for comparisons. We all should know how our cameras perform and where it fares well and where it doesn't. Doesn't matter if the competition does a better job, as we won't change systems just because of that right? Unless you have $$ to spare, or need a second system.(But continue to compare. I wanna see! )

![]() If you orredie bought the camera, enjoy it. That is what I told my friend who ask me about canon lense when he is using Nikon, and he is asking an olympus user. Go figure... I should poison him with olympus system hor... kekeke ![]() ![]() ![]() |

You are absolutely right. Excessive comparisons only serves to feed the ego. Oly already has a excellent system comparable to others, just learn its pros and cons and work from there.

Hmm well, in terms of dynamic range, here is a scientific test to check out E3's comparison with the rest of the gang.

I think with dSLRs things must be taken with a pinch of salt. I mean it's easy to compare most compacts 'coz they have a fixed lens... dSLRs across brands will almost never be tested with the exact same lens. Oly 50mm f2 macro on a Canon? Not terribly likely. Canon f1.8 50mm on a Canon dSLR vs Oly 50mm macro on an Oly? Now we're talking different lens already...

one of the main reasons why i decided on oly was the Show your oly colours sticky in the 4/3 forum. similarly, others may prefer the 1D m3 output colours. you can test and compare camera and its handling at the shops, but you can't do a image quality comparison there. this is where such threads come in really nicely. so long as it doesn't turn into a brand loyalty chest thumping thread, i'd welcome more of such comparisons to help others who are undecided. thanks to bro microcosm for sharing
