I shoot depending if im bouncing flash or not lol. If no flash its overhand, with flash underhand (430EX can only rotate 180 on one side! maybe time to get his big bro)

overhead, where your elbow has tendency to jut out if you don't consciously tuck it in to be closer to your body.

i find smaller cam are more suitable for underhand. for dSLR i use overhand tho sometimes i use underhand and find it a little more stable tho I don like the position.

I use both overhand and underhand method, depending on the situation (pointing up or down). But I find underhand more stable and tend to use underhand more conciously.

And sometimes when I use underhand, I use my thumb to fire the shutter, I find it more natural that way. Try it!

ehh? my chicken wing is tuck close to body so becomes underhand. sort of like how you how a rifle. subconciously makes me feel a smaller target and hence less noticeable by what i shoot

Physical restrictions. Those with naturally very flexible wrists might not have a problem with the "underhand" method... Just bend your wrist forwards/backwards and you'd see what I mean.

Me? "overhand" when there is no time... and vertical grip when I have the luxury to reposition my hands. With some amount of discomfort I can still do "underhand", but really don't see a need unless I have to bounce a flash off the right wall or something like that...

but it is also dependant on the weight of the camera. if its a pns then no problem. try doing that with a pro cam with the works on it and the arm will break.

overhand if without grip... well... there is a reason for overhand being the 'correct posture' as shown in camera manual, apart from stability...
there won't be a problem moving left and right for underhand.... but try shooting your own feet with underhand... you'll know what i mean once you tried it...

I do both, really depends on the situation. There are situations where you can use the overhand. But my ancient SLR training tells me that underhand offers me more support.

    mostly underhand. feels more stable.
