    Very strong words indeed.

BTW are you referring to the TS for being "stupid and irresponsible" in asking the stranger to take his(TS) camera from the bench and hand over to him(TS)? because the TS could not even bother to take a few step back and carry his own camera? or are you referring to the stranger for being "stupid" for acceding to the request by the TS to take the TS camera from the bench and hand over to the TS? and as a result the stranger is "irresponsible" to himself as he got himself into trouble because the stranger was accused by the TS for dropping the(TS) camera?

I wonder yes probably on both counts you are right

    Here's my opinion.

The incident has already happened, the camera n lens is already damaged. Instead of harping on the behavior of the guy or whose responsibility it should be. Why not just get another camera, and go enjoy your shoots or just get on with your life? Is it such a terrible incident; that you are scarred from it and must register to post on the forum?

Whether you like it or not, life still goes on, at least to the person you mentioned, I'm sure it's not bothering his sleep.

Since you asked for advice on what to do? Here's mine, go get another cam, be it Nikon,Canon or anything. Go out and shoot, and take this as a lesson learnt, don't ask others to handle your possession, especially one that you just got to know.

    Ur reply is not simple

anyway apologies for the strong words cuz it did rubbed me off badly as it reminded me of

    my own personal encounter.

However, his attitude and immediate response to the incident wasn't quite appropriate.

Sometimes its hard to phrase the correct words when such things happens.

But anyway, TS has solved his problem. I am out of here.

i do not really like posting in forums. till today. got angry.

but i guess it bring me up to the point that i should log a case in small claim.
under the small claim, cover tortious damage to property. of cos before i go i should head on to a police post for adivce and what type of claim.

i think let someone be there to give fair word. since he is not gentlement enough to pay for the damage.

i did understand about human being, for running away from what they have done wrong. let him speak the truth.
    what do you all think?

static- same thing happen to me when i was little. but my neibouror willingly pay me the different, in fact she brought me a new one of SEGA ( something like PS2) till now it is still working good. and we still keep in contact.

    satay 16-

this is call hit and run. if you try that in a shop. what is the chance for not paying. same thing, he himself is a photograher. then if i turn the word, he should not be touching other people camera even through he is give the permission to do so? no matter how, someone give u permission to take, u hander it with care. if you drop there is nothing to say. unless is a "drop trick" then there is word to spare.

Frankly speaking, you do not have a case to raise.

Firstly, it is your word against his; you have your story and I'm sure he'll have his.

Secondly, what are you going to raise charges against him on? Dropping your camera? It is very unlikely that you will recover any damages in a civil suit, because it his not his intention to drop your camera. He was merely acting on instruction from you, and dropping the camera was an accident, though a mishandling on his behalf, but still an accident, and nothing more.

Thirdly, do be careful. You are treading a thin line here. He may raise a defamatory suit against you if he does find out about this thread.

    move on bah.

    little lessons in life.

if i were the one passing you the 50-500mm, i would have handled the set-up by the lens instead, the body's so light and tiny compared to the lens.

i still believe one should take care of his own stuffs...i rather miss a shot then taking a risk. by the way, 50-500mm is not as heavy as to move about by holding it.
Take both its legs down first, then cuts its tail, next is shoot between its eyes:devil:

at the very least, he's hoping people in this forum who own cameras can identify with his pain. i dun think it's appropriate to compare a senior citizen to a stranger and his encounter with this senior citizen as let him fool around with your camera.

Hi, just in case you need help. I got a defective D70. All the parts of the mount are still intact.
I can even fix it for you. I know it will be difficult for you to trust me so if you want, I can show you my D70 repair manual and you can watch me fix it. As for the charge, pay what you thing is reasonable. (not more than $60 for everything)

    Just trying to help

    1. Do not be helpful to stranger, acquaintance or someone you just know or accede to request to bring or help carry or even hold their camera or equipment. Because they will spare no effort to hold you responsible, publicly post or attempt to shame you for damaging their equipment. Whether it was damaged by you or actually already damaged etc
Yah, this one i agree... when come to this, dun be a kay poh or smart alec trying to help or tell other ppl wat is good or right... just mind own business is best.

If tat man is an old man... he must be the typical 'yi lau mai lau' that kind of senior citizen... sometimes quite irritating, this kind of 'yi lau mai lau' character.

Reminded me of an incident many years back when I lent my newly bought bike to my

    friend for a joyride.

After he finished a spin round the carpark, he park my bike on its side stand and

proceeded walking back to me. Before he even reached , the side stand slided and my bike

    toppled.

He got the cheek to tell me that the wind was too strong and my bike had "toppled" on its

own. Upon inspection, the engine part incurred some noticeable scratches due to the stones

lying beneath it. He declared loudly that he was willing to "pay" if i insisted on sending it for

respray. In the end, i didnt make a big fuss out of it and just had to bear with the minor scratches.

Actually I wouldn't get so pissed if he just apologized and admitted it was his fault that he

didnt extend the side stand properly. But he went on and on to rant abt the side stand being

faulty and it was actually the wind that blew it down. WTF !

Wat a jerk. Best joke I ever heard about him was about him getting handphone number from

his best friend's girlfriend. Upon questioning, he admitted to it but declared tat contacting

the girl was never in his intention
you sure its friend, not fiend...

    from dictionary.com....

stran·ger /ˈstreɪndʒər/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[streyn-jer] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1.a person with whom one has had no personal acquaintance: He is a perfect stranger to me. 2.a newcomer in a place or locality: a stranger in town. 3.an outsider: They want no strangers in on the club meetings. 4.a person who is unacquainted with or unaccustomed to something (usually fol. by to): He is no stranger to poverty. 5.a person who is not a member of the family, group, community, or the like, as a visitor or guest: Our town shows hospitality to strangers. 6.Law. one not privy or party to an act, proceeding, etc.

since TS is not acquainted with the old man, the old man can therefore be considered a stranger to TS.

nonetheless TS should have been aware of the risks of letting an "old and retire person" handle his "3kg plus" equipment.

The fact is that everybody will grow old, no 2 ways about it. And its not just karma its life. No way to avoid it..... well unless one's life journey ends before that stage.

i agree with 'yi lau mai lau' ('selling your old unwanted through to anyone') and another sentence is "i eat salt more then you eating rice"

different from the broken lens case

there one time, and old couple, i mean i will not say old cos they are around my parent age. he was taking shot in the forest, a MA mirco lens. i can say it is a goog MA mirco lens, i forget what brand.

of cos my setup up was like kit lens and my body, walking around. after a normal greeting, is like " how is your shot?". we started chatting. part of his chat was how good pentax 10D camera is a "pro camera" and it is the top DG range, of cos i kept silence. kept comparing. till i got quite irritated. so i ask him, "so what is cannon Ds M111, nikon d3.... are you telling me that they are not pro body?'. and there is when he gone silence.

then i ask him. why choice pentax over other brand? he say is becase of the good lens he is having. i answer him, "yar, true, but that is not the way, if u think that lens is dam good, go for film and not DG cam, and when u want to change body, u will get irritated on what to keep and not."

is till i fix up my giant lens to take some fishs coming off the surface, then he gave me the "ok you win,u are more exp then me, listen to you" look. at least, the end i share know from the book to him, and thankful to me. and offer to sent me home. this time with no broken body and etc.

my take is, if you want someone to handle your expensive stuffs, just be prepare for disaster to happen and do not expect any compensation from the other party (friends or stranger) alike.

just that day, my colleague rode his 12k limited edition TREK road bike to office. i ask for a test ride and he readily agree. of course i was very cautious when handling the bike as i cannot imagine how i'm going to compensate him if i crash his bike.
