is not about knowing him. but the way he talk after the accident. he still feel he is not the one who make it drop. that is the best part.

i think from the feedback you can see some people think that guy isn't responsible for the accident. or if he had refused to help you at that time, will you post a negative comment that he refused to help as there is not one else?

    but most photographers should know...

we don't usually allow others/strangers to touch your equipment,
    unless you trust them.

Furthermore it's expensive and precious equipment, and you are out
in the field, all the more important you should handle it yourself.

Not pointing the finger at anybody, but that's the general rule most of us follow.

Hmm based on your story , it is carelessness for you to trust stranger that you just met them in the forest. It is purely accidental. What you can do just send it for repair and be aware of the things do happen.
Think of concepts and work towards it.

Two Lessons learnt here. One is something old which I have observed and one very new and just learnt.

    Old lesson
    1. Never ask someone whom you do not know or employed to handle your camera and lenses etc (unless he is your PA)

    New lesson
    1. Do not be helpful to stranger, acquaintance or someone you just know or accede to request to bring or help carry or even hold their camera or equipment. Because they will spare no effort to hold you responsible, publicly post or attempt to shame you for damaging their equipment. Whether it was damaged by you or actually already damaged etc

Wonder how are you able to shoot birds without a tripod with your setup. Secondly is that you seem to have strayed off the trials into the reserve if I read correctly.

We always carry our own gears along even when we go jungle bashing. Hope you can get you camera fixed.

update on the cost of repair.

from nilkon service order - is about $280 after GST. still better then getting a second hand. and price include

replace a new mouting, parts that are missing. and etc. general clearning , zeroing. and a 6 month warrently. waiting time 7 days

if i find other to repair , i dun think so i can trust them. not forgetting, my sigma lense for repair. sian... man.... rrgggg

have to stay with this baby for at least another year before thinking of changing.

(freehand is good. got no restriction in anything. but very risky. one way is apply the snipper- hold on using left hand, and use righ hand for zooming.)

At least the damage doesn't sound so bad - a few hundred dollars comapred to what if that was an old German made camera or a Tamron lens - then you probably can't even get it repaired here.

If you want to continue jungle manouvers with large/heavy equipment, you can always try out some kind of body harnesses. Some of them are very secure and come with quick-release mechanisms for speed and convenience.

Good to hear that it will work out OK for you.

Unfortunately such stupid irresponsible ppl are common in Sinkapore.

Reminded me of an incident many years back when I lent my newly bought bike to my

    friend for a joyride.

After he finished a spin round the carpark, he park my bike on its side stand and

proceeded walking back to me. Before he even reached , the side stand slided and my bike

    toppled.

He got the cheek to tell me that the wind was too strong and my bike had "toppled" on its

own. Upon inspection, the engine part incurred some noticeable scratches due to the stones

lying beneath it. He declared loudly that he was willing to "pay" if i insisted on sending it for

respray. In the end, i didnt make a big fuss out of it and just had to bear with the minor scratches.

Actually I wouldn't get so pissed if he just apologized and admitted it was his fault that he

didnt extend the side stand properly. But he went on and on to rant abt the side stand being

faulty and it was actually the wind that blew it down. WTF !

Wat a jerk. Best joke I ever heard about him was about him getting handphone number from

his best friend's girlfriend. Upon questioning, he admitted to it but declared tat contacting

the girl was never in his intention
