hi all,
i was going thru reviews on the-digital-picture and have drawn up a wish list of some lens i may wish to purchase... Macro - EF100mm f2.8 Macro USM Zoom - EF 75-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM Standard - EF 50mm f1.4 USM However, being new to dslr, i would like to knw your comments on the above selected lens.. please leave L lense out of the review (no budget....) reasons for selection Macro - dont want to be too close for macro shots, hence did not want the 60mm Zoom - no specific reason, currently using kit II (17-85mm) Standard - i want the f1.4 for background blurring... |

I would recommend Canon EFS 17-55 F2.8 IS USM for Standard Zoom I would recommend Canon EFS 10-22 USM for Wide Zoom These are the "hidden" L lens with L Class IQ but normal build. |

It is noticeably sharper and brighter than your current 17-85. Both of them are equally good and I do recommend you continue to keep your 17-85 as a very good travel walkaround lens.

50mm f/1.4 is a good idea. I know you mentioned that L lenses are out of your budget, but do consider a 70-200 F/4 L. It's going at around 800 second-hand on BNS, and definitely worth considering. If you're not into macro photography (and just want to experiment), then hold off the 100mm f/2.8 first and get a decent tele zoom. No point spending almost 400 plus for a low-quality lens, and then realise you should have invested in a better lens instead. The best solution? Try both lenses out.

can try 55-250 IS if low on budget..
quite a decent lens with low price tag... i feel that 70-200 F4 is somewhat here nor there.. cause no IS, nor a large aperture so you might find that is not enough at times esp indoors.. so maybe i would think get a 55-250 IS, then when u have enough budget, go for 70-200 F2.8L IS |

tried out the 70-200 f4L at MS color.. they selling for 1120.. quite shiok..
in all, went there to try 50mm f1.8 II 70-200mm f4L 100mm f2.8 Macro i like the results achieved with the 50mm f1.8.. perhaps can consider getting that instead of the 1.4 .. feels plastic tho.. |
