Hi guys,
I came across this review: http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...2835/index.htm I am not sure if the current 14-54 in the market is the same as the one in the review, but I am just thinking if it is worth switching my kit lens 14-45 to 14-54mm? Please advice. Thx |

not sure about the 14-45.... i upgraded from my e510 (14-42) to the 14-54... and has not regretted paying the extra bucks for it.... 14-54 has much better build, focuses faster, is alot brighter/faster and has longer reach.... optically i feel they are quite on par but i believe the above mentioned 4 reasons is suffice enough to make most ppl (with extra $$ to spend) to make to switch ba.... of course if you have more than extra $$.... you could take a closer look at the new 12-60 |

the thing is are you looking for a SINGLE lens solution, ie walkabout with only one lens. If so the 14-54 or the 12-60 is good depending on your budget.
If you are going for a multiple lens combo, I think the 14-54 is neither here nor there. A 14-45 lens with lets say 50mm f2.0 macro would be more interesting if you are willing to change lens. It also allows you to upgrade further down the road to a 11-22mm. |

Take it from someone who has upgraded his 14-45mm to 14-54mm. Its worth it. The focusing is much much faster compared to the 14-45mm lens in low light.. also this lens is sharp.

i've also upgraded my 14-42 to a 14-54. So far that has the lens thats forever stuck to the body.
Its great as an all rounder. Portraits shots are also pretty nice. Great for events unless u need long zooms. The only downsize i can think of is that its alot heavier than the 14-42. However, i think this will still be my travel lens. Can live with the weight ![]()

Sorry for asking noob question. Has anyone got comparision between 14-54 & 12-60. what i have read on so far is the 12-60 is faster in focusing as compare with 14-54. how is sharpness or pic quality compare between both lens. Im currently using E-500 with 14-45, 50 & 40-150. I would wish to do a upgrade on either 14-54 or 12-60 before switching to E3. Will be grateful if any pros here can give advise. Thanks in advance.

Same thing here for the 35-100... you train your muscles to get used to it... now my 50-200mm is a feather light lens... LOL.

Back to topic :
Reasons why I will upgrade - 1. Splashproof construction of the lens. Accidents and weather change happens... especially when living in the tropics. 2. Better focusing speed (this ALONE is the reason to buy the 14-54). Missed shots are missed shots. 3. Build quality. I like the security in this. Especially when compared to the newest range of kit lenses with plastic mounts, I get very nervous about using them. 4. BUT... I would recommend the 12-60mm SWD is your shooting involves a lot of holidaying shooting as the wider end is really useful in landscape photography. 5. Closer focusing. Very useful for closeup shots especially on the streets where you want to take details of things like food or anything in detail. Though nothing would beat a dedicated macro. - - - Try both the 14-54mm and the 12-60mm SWD and see how they feel to you. The 14-54mm is not alot slower than the 12-60mm by the way. I have both lens and they feel almost equally fast in daily use (I shoot a lot of street pictures and speed is EVERYTHING). Happy shopping. Sorry for going off topic in my earlier post... cannot help it... moderator still human being you know, and the kaki (friends) in here are just too sweet... And most of all, sorry for "poisoning" you... ![]()

http://olyflyer.blogspot.com/2007/06...d-14-54mm.html Not easy to decide, because ot the price maybe, but I am quite sure you wouldn't regret once you had the lens.
