Question Do you read the camera's instruction manual?

Do you bother to read the camera's instruction manual when you first purchased the camera or subsequently refer to it for certain features/functions?

I read it usually once through. Technically to know what the camera can do. Some functions are not outright as obvious as others and may be useful in the course of taking pictures

Yes, you are right to say. As time goes by, and when you are more familar with your camera, you will refer to it again for more of its features/functions.

I read an online version of the manual before confirming my camera purchase.
So that I know what it can do and if it suited my requirements.

this is what i usually do, regardless of gadget.

1. open box take out gadget.
2. charge battery.
3. flip manual
4. see something fun
5. put battery in and test.
6. realise quite stupid.
7. continue charging battery.
8. manual left on the floor for the next 3 weeks.

If I run into problems yes.

So far, 30D has been really an ease to use.

I think most of us who have been shooting for some time do not really have to read the manual thoroughly before using the camera. Just a quick read through will suffice. However when it comes to using features that are peculiar to each camera, then we will read the manual to acquaint/learn how to use those features. At least for me, I often can't remember most of the features that I would not normally use in my shoots and need to refer to the manual each time I want or need to use them.

I read it while waiting for the battery to charge.
Even when I got another DSLR and had already had batteries for it, thought I would read it first
Gives a good overview of what the camera is capable of doing, so you know all the functions, then playing with it all reinforces it

I glance through the manual, and carry it with me in the camera bag to refer to it should I forget how to activate something.

and when crunch time comes, I totally forget that I had the manual with me, and feel like an idiot when I arrive home a couple of hours later and realise that I was carrying the manual with me all the while.

Use the gadget first, and read the manual when @ home.
