both are not macro lens with magnification of 1:1
1 cost >1.5k (used) the other is about 500 (used) 1 has USM the other has an ordinary motor 1 is 2x the weight of the other.. it boils down to what are your priorities like.. |

What is your camera? If it is full frame, get the Canon. if it is APS-C, get the Tamron.
Bob Atkins writes a good review of the Tamron at http://www.bobatkins.com/photography...ron_28_75.html I have this lens and would recommend it.

Tamron is a good lens. Very sharp and light indeed.

yes they both fit (on a Canon mount) but i beleieve that on a FF the Tamron's weakness is exposed around the edges.
Just noticed that someone named Volt is selling a Tamron that is 9 / 10 condition on the Buy/Sell. It might be a good deal.

I prefer 24-70mm.
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...ns-Review.aspx for 24-70mm review. http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...ns-Review.aspx for 28-75mm review. |

I would get the Tamron if its for daily photography, such as candids and travel.
I would get the Canon if its for paid photography, such as events. The Canon is 3x the cost of the Tamron...

2. AF speed and accuracy 3. Size and Weight 4. Distortion (vignetting, CA, flare)

i havd the 28-75, sold it. now have the 24-70 loving it, but have a 24-105 next to my 24-70. OMG !!! lol
pro and con of 28-75 lighter smaller easier to carry. motor noisy but not as noisy as 17-50 pro and con heavy big USM faster AF seems faster under lowlight Colour better (IMOP) both sharp F2.8 constant i use both on my 30D so could not comment on edge sharpness. |

Comparison:
Pro for Canon: Faster AF (I always feel that Tamron has the slowest AF amongst thrid party manufacturers) Better Build (Lens extend within the hood, extension of lens is protected at all times) Better Shielding (The hood is designed to shield the lens against flare at all focal length due to it's unique design) Pro for Tamron: Price (Yes, 3 times less ex than canon) Lighter (Much lighter in compromise for build) Slightly better macro (Have a better magnification ratio) Regarding Image Quality, i cant give a goo comparsion but with my experience on 24-70, i can say that the lens can get real sharp at f4-5.6 and corner sharpness on a 30D is good... Only bad thing is that at 24mm, the CA can get a bit unsatisfactory. Oh ya... One more thing that i love abt the 24-70, it has almost ZERO distortion on a cropped body (30D) which i find good in many ways... |

Get the Canon 24-70L. Owned it and love it. Yes it is on the heavier side but the images produces by this lens is great. Never had a chance to try the tamron so cannot compare on that.
