Hi everyone,
I have a 70-200 f4L non-IS which is great for outdoors but I find it's too slow for indoors, yet I'm reluctant to go for the f2/8 versions because of size and cost. I'm not sure that upgrading to the f4L IS is the correct solution - it will definitely improve handholdability indoors, but it'll will not be able to stop subject movement. Therefore I'm considering either the Tokina or the Sigma as an alternative - faster than my f4L yet smaller/lighter/cheaper than the f2.8 versions of the 70-200. Most if not all of the comments I've found on CS regarding these 2 lenses are from Nikon users. Any Canon shooters out there using either of these lenses? Comments? Sigma prone to front-focusing? Tokina AF too slow? Worthwhile ditching my f4L for any of these two lenses? browncow |

I'd say don't ditch. Keep the f/4L for it's superb quality. Don't know too much about the two lenses as I've only briefly tried them.

Thanks calebk and Klose for your replies.
Looks like there aren't many Canon users of these 2 lenses, probably either because they aren't very good or that Canon has many excellent options near that focal range. Shame, cos I kinda like the looks of the Tokina and dislike the color of my 70-200 f4L!! =) |

Hi, I owned a copy of Sigma 50-150 Canon mount. Image wise, it's quite sharp. And it's build is quite light to carry, and the f2.8 is quite useful as well. So far, no complaint at all.

I'm bought the Tokina 50-135 about a week ago. Using in on a 400D. So far i'm incredibly happy with the lens. The AF seems to have some problems in low light though. Hunts around abit, but its not *too* bad (i.e. i dont mind a whole lot)
Great in the day time though, was using it to take pics of my dogs running around. Bought this and a hoya UV filter at CP for abt $799. Seems like pretty good value. Love the build quality |

Thanks tc811 and tjdavamoni for their replies.
To calebk, hahaha...sorry I didn't make myself clear. I don't like the exterior color of the Canon's L zooms, ie. white. Absolutely no complaints about the color or sharpness of the pictures that it can produce....given enough light. When indoors or in low light situations, then of course I wish I had the f2.8 version or the IS version, or better still the f2.8 IS version!! browncow |
