Default Sigma macro lens 70mm/f2.8 EX DG

Hi, I'm new in this forum. been trying to search threads for sigma macro lens, but couldn't really find a match.
1. Does anybody ever use the award winning sigma macro lens 70mm/f2.8 EX DG?
2. How does it compare to the big brother 105/f2.8 or to the famous Tamron 90/f2.8 Di?
3. Anybody know about its price?

I'm using Nikon D300 and looking for a nice short/medium distance close-up lens. It would be great if you got any inputs for the best macro lens in this range.

thanks, M.

If you mean the Nikon 105mm F2.8ED-IF AF-S VR Lens, I have a bad DoF (Depth of Fund) with it (a.k.a no ex $$$)
Yeah, N60/2.6 should be good, but it seems too short.
70-105 is more like it, actually i think 90-150 is better for medium range, but I'd like to know about this sigma 70mm/f2.8 IQ, could it be better than the N60/2.8 for the same/lower price?. Don't even know the price also though.

just what do you plan to shoot with this new lens

the magnification of the N60 macro is 1:1
if you need more working distance then the 105 without the VR is a cheaper option

tokina, tamron and sigma also have cheaper options
i have only tried the nikons and tamron macro lenses
but i have seen some pictures from the other lenses and they are impressive as well
see the macro and close ups gallery for pictures

Hi Ortega,
My objects could be flowers, any textures of animals, faces, plants etc. I know it'd be hard to chase on insects with short fl, but for now, I think I wanna focus on slow moving/still objects .
First choice will be the above lens, I heard this lens is a bit more ex than N60mm, I wonder if it is really that superb, of course I'll do the testing first. Nobody seems replying to this thread, not very sure if anyone ever use, test or buy it. Can't find its price in the list also but with bonus 10mm, this should be an interesting/worthy piece of glass. If you guys ever saw it in any shop, do let me know.
Second choice will not be N60/N105 but either tamron90/tokina100/sigma105, it's gonna be one hell of a decision to make since you also said all are impressive lenses . Will use the $$$ just in case not really interested in macro anyway.
cheers, M.

for macro stuff, what is important is the working distance and the magnification

so for your usage, any of the lenses listed would be good

is there a reason for the want for the extra focal length?
anyway, i wish you luck in your choice of lens

you can try searching the net for reviews

Hi Ortega,
I only feel longer fl will have more benefit for full portrait and certain objects in macro.
Anyway, I found AP-F is selling at S$730 for Sigma 70/2.8 and S$700 for Sigma 105/2.8, but I didn't bring my gear for testing. Sill considering, thanks for the reply btw.
cheers.

Anyone has a price comparison for this lens?

Been out a year but hard to find in Singapore... kindof reminds me of the EF60mm a couple of years back... elusive
