Above lens selling at Adorama at USD$1199.99.
http://www.adorama.com/IOM50200S.html I think most probably this lens would cost close to 2K SGD when it reaches our shore. |

Should have a trade-in-your-old-50-200-lens program to ensure Oly users' loyalty, and as a pilot promotional program to promote the newer (and more expensive) 50-200. The promotional program's participants will go ga-ga and spread the poison to others.

Sounds a wee bit counter-intuitive, seeing as how Oly would wind up with reduced profits and a stack of old lenses they may or may not be able to offload (and would probably be costly to recycle). How about the nifty old camera trick? Flash your old 50-200 and get a free Kata bag! haha

I'm sure Oly already have such programs in place for select CS members.

Won't happen - there's already the question of the old 50-200mm currently in stock, how do you get rid of it, much less a trade-in programme. Even for "select" CS members as you say. ![]()

They're proven to be pretty good lenses, just not 'ultra fast' like the new "SWD"s. |

The best part is if they are bundled with the E-3, sooner or later some owners will realise they need better AF speed and then lust for the SWD versions later and the BBB virus bites again... and getting rid of the older lenses becomes their problem - haha I am so evil a marketeer.

While the 50-200mm will be made obsolete by the SWD version, the 14-54mm I'm afraid will not be replaced by the 12-60mm, mainly because of the significant price difference between them.

From what I know, there are no significant 14-54mm stocks existing, at least not in SG.
The 50-200mm on the other hand...

Except in some demanding situations (like if you're a sports shooter or birder) the difference would probably not be that critical. Especially not with the killer E3 AF =p I'd wait patiently for a 50-200 bargain, but it really is too heavy for my current style. haha
I think 14-54 and 12-60 cover different ranges. SWD or no, you're also paying for that extended reach. But if you can't justify the price diff for an extra 2mm wide, then the 12-60 will be an expensive toy.

![]() so if you're thinking of a "trade-in", you can offset you new 50-200 over here ![]() |
