I don;t think the lens is HSM, but rather auto-focus is by a screw. D40x needs a lens with a built in motor.

if you dont see"HSM" printed on the lens body...it wont auto focus with your D40x

yes, you could've possibly overlooked the fact that d40X can only autofocus with sigma lenses with HSM and Nikon lenses with AFS or AFI.

look for the alphabets.
if there is no HSM written, there is no built in motor. look at the lens right bottom corner.. is there a screw slot for driving?

I believe for sigma lenses they are usually located between the zoom and focus rings. Anyway... you can look here http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/len...18&navigator=6

Ths following is a list of compatible Sigma lenses that will AF on D40/x:
http://www.sigmaphoto.com/news/news.asp?nID=3356 I don't see the lens you have on this list... so I guess it would not AF on the D40/x ![]() |

Only look for Sigma HSM lenses, or original Nikon AF-S lenses if you want autofocus on your D40X. |
