Counting down to.... death?

I just noticed this problem on my E-3:

The picture counter was at 96 and after taking some pics and erasing them, it now reads 89 REGARDLESS of what picture size i choose or which CF/xD card I use....

Its ticking its way down to zero and then death??

Does anybody have this problem at all or is this something really simple to resolve that I am missing. I have tried formatting the cards over and over again and even a master reset to no avail.
