Dear all,

Have you heard of this shop?
Do you think they can be trusted?
Have anyone bought things from the shop?
They claim to sell grey sets and at a very competitive rate.
Really just wonder if they are for real and that they can be trusted.

Thanks

Really!
That sounds good.
It means another source to buy stuff.
All right.
Just to clarify, I am not from Orient Photo.
Just saw the shop so wanted some assurance before stepping in to view and buy (if price is right) Hee.....

Thanks

I did rahter buy from dealers that sell local stuff...you never know when you need them to help you. I have cameras that are trashed accidentally, and because of my relationship with some shops, and in turn their relationship with the service centres help to repair my stuff for free which will other wise cost a boom. Eg. A crack LCD.

AFAIK OP is quite a trusted shop. Yeah, they sell grey sets, but IIRC they do sell local sets. Grey sets are usually cheaper than local sets, and come with shop warranty instead of the OEM's warranty. So it depends largely on whether the shop can be trusted.

It depends on you. If you're comfortable enough with it, then I'd say go ahead. If not, then it'd be better if you spend a bit more money to get the original local set.

By the way, The Camera Workshop (TCW) is also quite a known place to get grey sets, in case you're considering them. Just get a quote from both of them and see which one you think is more worth it.

With everything said, this should belong in Consumers Corner subforum, not Canon subforum.

I doubt shops that sells grey sets have good relationship with local camera service centre such as Canon and Nikon.

And what exactly has this got to do with Canon?

The Canon subforum is for discussion of Canon & Canon-related equipment.

I've been buying lenses, camera accessories and the Kata bags from Orient Photo at Sim Lim Square.

So far, their services have been good to go. Those people that have bought camera stuff from Japan will know that the salesperson will use a glove when handling it. Orient photo staff are also following that practise.

I didn't see this happen when I wanted to buy a lens from other camera store at Sim Lim Square.

Agree. Observed that the sales person used glove when I bought lens from them. Also, not all stuff they sell are grey sets. If in doubt, check with them.

They won't stress you by letting you roam around the shop and always there if you need any assistance.

That's true. Especially when you are not sure of the lens and they would advise you to do a little read up before buying. This is what I really like about them.

No pushing of sales

Have you heard of this shop?

yes, heard of that shop, brought my first set of camera and lens there. but thus have sold everything off and forget about the in-house warrenty. i ever did sent in a tamron 17-50 for repair, they offered to send it back to japan for repair, promised within a week will get back the lens, and had to wait for 3 - 4 wks in the end. brought a B+W filter from them, cracked within 3 days by itself when placed in the dry cabinet, and thus found out that it's a third world grade b+w filter. so in the end, sold everything, and changed the whole set of camera and lens. told them about the B+W filter issue, due to guilt they offered to refund me a cheap Hoya filter, which cost 30+, and what i;ve brought a $120 B+w third world grade filter? i've brought more that 5k worth of goods from them and yet, they're unable to refund something which cost only $60-$70 at cost price? i didnt accept it of course and thus have never entered the shop anymore.
no doubt they're friendly when you're buying things from them, but think about when you're trying to tell them that their stuff is faulty or seeking an exchange? trust me their attitude will totally be different.

yes, when they just started out in singapore, their price are very good, but till now, their prices have gradually increased till i'm able to but a local set with just topping up a couple of dollars.

so TS, do u think they actually can be trusted?

I bought local set for my 40D, lens and flash all at Orient Photo. Nice people they have there. Polite and they are willing to let you open and see the product before you purchase them. Not like other shops at sim lim where they stare you like youre a criminal.

I am an often shopper at OP and I am very happy with their service. Price wise....very very reasonable. I always pay cash So the peopl in OP dont mind me bargaining a bit more. They will give in a bit.

_happy customer_
