Just wondering ... do you think that Canon will lower their prices on the 40D anytime soon...say by Feb 08? Or do you feel it has already 'stabalised' and will not drop for a long time?

I bought a 40D in October. Yeah I can get it cheaper in 3 months time, and even cheaper in 15 months time when the replacement is out, and in 3 years time I can get the replacement of the replacement is out, oh wait, if I wait another 5 years, or 7 years ......
Time moves on, photo opportunities don't wait for us, age catches up, if you need a 40D now, just buy it. If you have a photo shoot next week, and the price drops in 3 weeks time, do you wait? |

Hey, I wouldn't mind at all Flip!
But there's a GREY set going for 1.8+K with a grip and claimed fairly low usage in B&S. Should I get it? What would a grey set of 40D and grip cost brand new? Also, if I were to get brand new and with Canon warranty, at least I can use the zero interest credit card schemes that most major retailers offer. How How? |

whats the shutter count and which grip is it? the 2 or 2N? if 2 then could be a used one since its the same one that 30D uses.
no idea whats the cost of a brand new 40D grey set. the 2N grip is abt 250 now. so local set shld be abt 2k. so far, the savings from grey sets are not attractive enough for me. |

honestly, i think the price is abt there. i think the grey set is abt 100 cheaper than local sets. the grip shld be the same price regardless iirc.
so the pricing i think is not a great buy to me personally. but u do see savings nonetheless. have u checked how much a grey set from OP or TCW is right now? |

a) a % extra for using credit card (2-3% depending on where) and... b) another % extra for using the installment scheme. (varies according to shop as well. But I've heard of some charging 5% for this) So at the end of the day... what 0% interest are you talking about. Although comparing to the banks' interest rates... I think you're better off paying this "little bit" to the shops. My advice? Save up and you will save more at the end of the day.

That's what they all say. Just before 40D was out, 30D's prices already started plummeting. Who's to say what can and will happen in the market next? It's all very unpredictable.

Alamak ... I remember when announcements of the 40D were out, and you could literally 'see;' the prices of the 30D dropping and prices for v good cond 20D hit the gutters (as compared to their start-up price of $2,888). Look at the 1D MKII now - earlier this year no one would even think of letting one go for less than 3.4K even for a cond 8 bod, and now, you would have to work a lot harder to get 2.8K for a cond 9 or 10 bod. Hmm...now wondering if I should wait till after June 08 and re-look prices. Also, more used bods might be on the market then... |

Must not forget 40D is currently in its 4 month in the market. Considering how canon renew its system, doubt 40D will drop drastically for maybe 6 months or so. Also as what one of them say, you can wait forever, price will always be dropping. 3 Years down the road 40D may be worth less then 1k lol do you want to wait till then?
