Upcoming Photography Competition

Hi Peeps,

Gonna hold a photography competition soon and would like to find out what prizes would be good or interest people. U guys know best

Any suggestions? At the moment am thinking of a camera tt's worth $900.
Cannot be took ex or outrageous ya? Have a budget to track!

Who are the sponsors and which is the target group? For me, I would want an A-Mount CZ 16-80mm lens.

There are no sponsors for now so free to buy any brand.

Would prefer to buy prizes that are more generic that is suitable for alot of people.

haha.. i believe so.. maybe a DSLR with kit will be good..haha.. open to young people to generate their interest? hahaahah.

okies... have asked my boss and am looking at a Canon DSLR body kit w standard lens for 1st prize.. would people be interested to join?

Actually, if there are no sponsors (ie you are free to choose any prizes), then I would suggest Cash Prizes. Cash is still always the best, at least for me :-)

BTW, if your company wants to attract more (better) photographers for the competition, then I suggest that the rule will not include clause like "All entries are deemed to be the property of the organizer". It would appear like a cheap way for the company to obtain photos and that will put off many good photographers.

Just my 2-cents worth.

Thanx for the suggestion... and no.. its just a friendly competition to pull crowds to the place and not to get some photos for the company.

Have addressed the issue of cash prizes and I agree that its much more attractive... but the licenses and procedures involved have put off my bosses

So just have to obtain prizes that comes with a receipt... haiz...

Still discussing the prizes with my bosses though.. they don't like the idea of vouchers from a camera shop

A 1k voucher from Harvey Norman or Best Electronic might be better crowd puller than a camera shop... Prob have it in denominations of $50 so the winner's family can use it to purchase also.

Else a Scenic tour for 2 to take pictures in say... Korea? Japan? or any country within ur budget... just some ideas

Can't say I agree with giving out entry grade DSLRs with kit lens for photo competitions.. most photographers already have their own gear, so why would they want another basic dslr?

IMHO, the best prizes are those suggested by the later entries like cash or vouchers from cathay (if they do sell vouchers)
