Please help...
I got a Fujifilm XD card which i forgot to format using the Fuji Finepix FD31 first before taking photo (noob mistake). I took the card out and put it into the card reader, a dialog box pop out saying the card is not initialized and ask me to format. I select no and put the XD card back into the camera, but a card error message came out. Now i can't access the photo i took, using the camera or any other card reader that i have. Please anyone know how to salvage the photos? Or any professional shop that can help me? |

1. Don't panic! and it is not your fault. just don't understand why fuji still use this xD card. It's carp.
2. yr pixs are likely to be still there, provided you DO NOT format it!!! read on... 3. check around your friends. see who has those Image rescue software that comes with their Lexar or Sandisk Extreme CF card. You just need to use such image rescue software puls a decent USB card reader to salvage your images. 4. Next time, using the supplied USB cable to transfer your image from the fujiflim directly to your computer. slow but usually won't give that card corrupted error. Good luck. cocoa Last edited by cocoa; 21st December 2007 at 03:42 PM. |

From what I encountered, these problem are not limited to xD cards only. Many of them were actually caused by card readers' usage, or users' misuse of the cards (not formatting is one of them).
If the data can be erased, format the card in camera. Else download those recovery softwares to try on your own. If still fails, try the camera's service centre for data recovery at a fee. If so unlucky still cannot, you can look for professional data recovery company to help you. But the price can be around 1MB=$1. Data recoveries are not 100% guaranteed. Prevention is always better. |

I got exactly the same problem as you last time, xD corrupted when i was trying to save my files to my portable HDD. You can try out the following softwares:
PCInspector: http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/smar...htm?language=1 (this one work for me and its free!) Zero Assumption Digital Image Recovery: http://www.z-a-recovery.com/digital-image-recovery.htm (free and work for some, although i had not tried it) Photorescue: http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/ (need to pay but can run the software to test if it works first before committing) RescuePRO (supplied free when you buy Sandisk CF card): http://www.lc-tech.co.uk/software/rescueprodetail.html (this one worked for me) Lesson learnt- never try to read from Fuji xD using 3rd party card reader. Best is to plug in USB cable into the cam body and read directly. Good luck to you!! |

I use a XD card reader made by Olympus and never had any problems.
I do not recall "formatting" the card before use. Just pop it in and use. No image was ever lost. Last edited by ricohflex; 24th December 2007 at 02:01 PM. |

thats not true. in the first place, card errors can occur even with cf or sd cards. and there is no reason why you cant use card readers to read cards. most of the time card errors are due to faulty cards, or using on pc instead of cam to format the cards.

Well, i am no engineer and this is an advice given by Fuji service center. May be xD contact points are more sensitive to the frictions when one pulls it in and out of the card slots, thereby generating errors to the data inside. My other 2 cams are using SD and CF but so far no problem with 3rd party card readers. My fuji xD only tried once and kena liao!
