Default Color Space and FL-50R

Hi All,

I just got my 50R and while playing with it.... I noticed that when I use the FL-50R with sRGB everything is fine. When I change over to Adobe space, with all other setting same, image capture is little over-exposed by around +0.7EV. Is this normal when using Adobe color space?

By the way, which color space you guys use normally? I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0. It can't read E3 raw file but easy to use. Other then CS, any cheap and good software you guys use and better still, can read E3's raw file.

thanks in advance

sam

Oly Master 2 is free - it's quite clunky but hey, it's free and it works.

Colour space is normally sRGB - unless the image is going to be heavily DI'ed then aRGB may be the better option.

Haven't noticed overexposure on flash + aRGB, then again, I use the flash as often as I use aRGB, which is seldom.

I asked the question of aRGB or sRGB once on dpreview, and the concensus was sRGB. The reason why I asked was that I always used sRGB, but one day I tried aRGB and found the colours more pleasing to my eyes. Anyway, according to the majority, it is not a good idea to use aRGB since it is not supported as widely as sRGB, especially if you also print your images in a lab, that can be a problem. I am using sRGB, except for that little adventure for a few images.

BTW, why are you looking for a raw reader? if you have E-3 than you have Master as well, don't you? If that is not enough, Oly Studio is not that expensive, and it is very good. A whole lot better than Master, at lest the old one which came with my E-500.

If you are editing for print, then you (may) want to use aRGB...the issue why you wouldn't is most consumer printers are optimised for sRGB, and you have to use editing software that can handle aRGB (mine can't).

For on-screen viewing (including creating slideshows) you should use sRGB.

Of course if you're serious and shooting RAW you would process for each use, rather than creating one image for all media.

Check out this page for a comparison of the colours, especially note the muted reds and violets of aRGB:

Hi All, thanks for the feedback. Think I will stick to sRGB.

Anyway tried out why the aRGB with FL50R is little over exposed? a bug in firmware?

cheers

One thing to note.

Talk to your regular printer and get him to tell you what his printer needs/prefers so that you can set your colour space before you send your images in.

My regular guy asks for CMYK, so that's what I give him, and he returns me great prints.
