The Fujifilm Finepix S5 Pro is still available for sale. Currently, the price of a brand-new set ranges from $2,200 to $2,400 depending on where and whom do you buy it from. Is the price going to drop below $2K? I doubt so. Not this year at least.

To help answer your second question, I will have to ask you a few questions of mine:
  1. Are you particular about the colors of skin tone in your images?
  2. Do find yourself routinely tweaking 90% your images in Adobe Photoshop or other image editing software after every shoot, and you find it a waste of time and HATE IT literally?
  3. Do you shoot still portraitures very often?
  4. Shooting sports event or action-oriented images is not your cup of tea, and you don't mind your camera being a bit slow.
  5. You have shot film in the past and have been craving for the 'film-like' look on your images for a very long time and have not yet found a suitable DSLR to satisfy your craving.
  6. Have been a Nikon user, or have used a D200 in the past, and don't mind that the S5 Pro reacts differently.
  7. Do you shoot JPEG images very often?
  8. You photograph outdoors under high contrast situation very often.
  9. You don't mind your DSLR has only 6MP, don't have CCD cleaning function and built-in vibration reduction.
If your answers to the above questions have more 'yes' than 'no', the S5 Pro is suitable for you.

Just to highlight that the S5 even today continues to have the widest dynamic range of any DSLR out there. This comes about becos of its unique sensor (S and R) pixels. Wide DR translates into smoother transition between highlight and shadows, less blown out areas. This is very important to some.

And to be fair, I don't think the S5 can be lumped together with other 6MP cameras. Again, becos of its unique sensor orientation, most tests put its resolution as equivalent to 8-9 MP. I mean, there is clearly no comparison between S5 images and those produced by say the D70.

The AWB of the S5 is also way better than most DSLRs (much more accurate than the D200). However, it seems the latest D3/300 has caught up, so the difference is getting smaller.

Bro, his second question lah.... Not about money.

Anyway, the price of a S5 Pro is no higher than a Nikon D300. It is still quite affordable for a professional DSLR.

I agree.

Tested the Nikon D300 against the S5 Pro. Color-wise, Fuji still win hands-down.

AWB-wise, I find the D300 a bit 'orange-reddish', whereas the S5 Pro is more 'magenta' (which looks better on skin tones).

Personally, I use an Expodisc for WB.

The S5 Pro is slower than the D300 in everything (even the battery charger from Fuji is slower). However, just like the story of the hare and the tortoise, slower don't mean worse.

No need to cry. Sometimes no money is a blessing!

Since early this year, I had been wanting to buy a digital camera, but no money. At that time, I was considering the Sony alpha 100 and then the Pentax K10D. But no money!

In fact, I won a $1200 Sony voucher in January, but no money to top up for the alpha 100.

Then in July, Steven of Camera Hospital showed me the S5 Pro. When I asked the price, my first reaction was NO MONEY. I told him, for that money (cost of S5 Pro Body) I could get Pentax K10D plus two lenses and still have few hundred dollars change.

His reply was that S5 Pro is different class. Until then, I did not even know that the S5 Pro existed, as I had been shooting film all along and not really in touch with digital developments.

But the more I read up and researched, the more I realised that S5 Pro is truly special. And if I bought anything else, I would always be wondering "What if.... I had bought the S5 Pro?"

My heart was set. Finally in November, I got the money. I bought and today I very happy S5 Pro owner.

Imagine, if earlier I had money, I would have ended up with a Sony alpha 100 or Pentax K10D! Instead, I got myself a camera of "a different class".
Read more on my web.

As I have told you before only you can answer your own question.

If you really want to know, as I have said, why don't you test it out for yourself? I am not you and you are not me. I cannot tell you whether the S5 Pro is fast enough for you.

Why is it so difficult to make a trip to Cathay Photo or Alan Photo?
