Default How much water can it take... E-3

well, just wondering, how much water can the E-3 takes to go kaput... lol...

Can't find anywhere that states tis... like time, amount, pressure... etc...

then the lenses, does the front element coating wear off if washed by water...

Should be in the Four Thirds forum.

How much water arh? No one knows... Many E-1 are still functioning properly. And E-1 was released quite long ago.

Maybe the E-3 will go kaput when the weather sealing rubber wears off. Wear and tear.

The lens, I use with UV filter, so no problems there.

My E-3 has been in the rain a few times and still as good as new.

It should be able to take heavy downpour-type of water pressure.

What will definitely kill the weatherproofing is high-pressure garden hoses.

For kids splashing in the pool, it shouldn't be a problem - the 12-60mm lens shouldn't have a problem with that as well.

Use it with confidence!

Weather proof means can stand even if sprinkled with water, not immersed in water.
Immerse in water = water torture, you dip your camera and ask him to confess. Dont try this with new olymnpus compact that it waterproof until 10 meters deep. It wont confess.

More than sprinkle water lah.

And who will risk a few thousand dollars to get the E-3 into the water?

What??? 100 shots gone already? Crazy. My 350+ still going strong.

Must press AFL/AEL to AF.

Take about 100 RAW and no power? That's odd. My fully charged BLM-1 is still going strong after 400+ shots. I shoot RAW and SHQ (1/2.7). As for the keys and buttons I think it will take a little effort to accustom to E-3. Generally it is user friendly. Are you an existing Olympus E-System user? For me, it took me a little over an hour to familiarise with the menus, buttons, keys and dials. For AF using live view, if you want to pre-focus you have to press the AEL/AFL button. You can also press the shutter for AF. Both of these functions yield good results, at least for me.

Dont know about the E-3 but I have proof that the E-1 can withstand the spray from a waterfall, read as not directly under the waterfall

Don't think any camera can withstand the impact of a waterfall, except maybe those with underwater mount

Just came back from Lombok and the national park there is beautiful. Wished I had the 7mm lens.

Maybe the batt you have going up lorry already.

For the settings, most of the time there's a shortcut way to do it. For different systems, the naming convention for the same function are different most of the time.

As for the live view, there is both AF and MF - on AF it will do a mirror down, focus lock, mirror up then shutter release. It does not focus like a PnS.

Maybe 100 shots if you're having flash for every shot, flash AF combined with constant live view. Hmm. But there isn't technically AF in live view proper. The camera has to temporarily flip the mirror back to AF.

Some of the things that I have done with the camera :

Weatherproofing : I cannot compare the E-3 to the E-1 (no heart to push) but I have dunked the E-1 into a pail of water and take it out immediately without any problems.

Also, I have shot in typhoons with the E-1, and no drama at all. I usually flush my camera under a shower head after shooting in high dust/sand areas or by the sea (immediately after shoot, first removing the CF card). Because sea salts are highly corrosive, I don't want a salt caked camera back in to my bag. After washing, I will towel dry the camera/lens and sling the camera and air dry, not in the bag. Remove and change filter if I have to, but the COATING on the front element is technically harder than B+W MRC coating. Nevertheless, it is cheaper to replace a MRC filter than the front element. For rough weather/seaside shooting, I usually get a Hoya and throw that away after the shoot/wash. Screw on the B+W MRC again.

Do not submerge your camera into water. A quick dunk is definitely ok. The gaskets will hold. Usually for me it is a running tap and reasonably ok shower. (non high pressure type).

As for the battery life, I have done 600 shots on jpg on my E-3. More than 400+ shots shooting RAW+jpg. Your battery must be failing, DCA.

I dun use live view 90% of the time. And I easily get perhaps 500 + shots. Even more maybe. 100 shots RAW is abnormal. Maybe third party battery.

I've used my E-1 for the Songkran festival. My camera was drenched with mud water, dunked with me into a canal, coated with flour gunk and then splashed continuously with water again, after which it was washed under the tap to clean up after the action. still working fine~ at Oly now (back in SG for good) for servicing.

I am surprised with the flour gunk attack though... they do that too? Gee...
