I finally decided to try out medium format last week, got the slides back today and have to say, i was blown away by the quality and the tone of the black and white slides, Ive never been able to achieve a great black and white with digital, but film managed to get exactly what i wanted straight away. Im very glad to have finally tried it!
So just sharing a first timers try. Taken with a manual focus Mamiya 6! 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() Cheers! |

Fantastic system!
I too was blown away when I first saw the negatives from my mamiya 6... These were from a 75mm? Too bad you can't really focus close enough for a head shot huh? |

With a mixture, the first wide shot was with the 50mm and the rest was with 75mm, I had the 150mm too, but found focusing really hard as the box was really small! Most of the head shots with that are just out of focus, but some are ok, prefer the 75mm and the sharpness of the 50!

Wait till you shoot some slides.
You'll feel like throwing away all your "inferior" 35mm/digital cameras. ![]() Samuel

Im not too sure, I borrowed them from a friend. They were Ilford Delta 100 slides.
Haha, one step at a time! |

MF slides are great because it's not that much more in comparision to MF negs, both colour and film. 35mm slides are a world away from negs, price wise. Samuel

More expensive then 120 slides, yes. 35mm slides are around $10+ dollars. 120 slides are around $4-5 dollars. You do get almost three times as many photos though, so all isn't lost.

Now that you're blown away by the MF picture quality, the other BIG thing about the Mamiya 6 is the 6x6 square format. The framing concept is quite different from the rectangular 35mm format. There are pictures that will work so much better in square than in rectangular - particularly environmental portraits. Over time, you may find that your shooting style may be distinct for the 2 formats.
