Default Newbie Attempts

Hi Guys,

Learning how to take macro pix, thus appreciate any comments and advices. I took this at Lower Peirce using Oly E500 with Sigma 105mm macro lens with Flash.

Thanks in advance.
Cheers

What's that second bug? Looks kinda funny. Third one looks like a mozzie. Shows how much I know about bugs. Hahaha!!

#2 looks like a type of weevil beetle.
#3 looks like a crane fly

Things to note, with macros for insects, try to increase the DOF by using a smaller aperture. Usage of fill flash will help to compensate for the smaller aperture's lowered light input.

Keep trying, you'll enjoy it.

Personally, I use a minimum of f8 and can stop down to f32 if need be....

Soloanvi,
F5 and F6 is too shallow if you go really near to them. When you do macro, you basically magnify what is small, so the distance in a way is also magnify so you need to set the aperture smaller. Hopes this helps. I'm also newbie like yourself and still learning.

Hi Michael,
How come you never comment on my macro photos one-ar?

I have no DSLR, but for apeture, there is a diffraction issue if the lens is closed down too much. Some recommend F16-22. But you have to find out more for your particular lens.
