Use this to compare their pictures. S6500fd is known as S6000fd there.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM The S6500fd has clearly less noise at ISO 400 and above not only against the Pana FZ50 but also vs. S9600. This is the main reason why I bought the S6500fd. Those other prosumer cameras with a smaller 1/2.5" sensors exhibit visible random noise in the picture even in day light at ISO 100 or 200. However, there isn't any rumours at all. There is also a marketing problem of pricing the replacement for S6500fd and S9600 these days. Prices of some entry level DSLRs with kit lens have come down to below $1000 and in addition, the super zoom crappy 1/2.5" prosumer cameras such as S8000fd and S5800 are in the $380-$600 range. So it's increasingly difficult to sell a prosumer camera at $600-$800 range when the general consumers can't differentiate the better 1/1.7" super CCD sensor prosumer cameras from other long zoom 1/2.5" prosumer cameras. If I were to get the Nikon D40, I would also need to buy a few fast (F/2.8 or F/4) lenses and long (up to 300mm) lens, an external flash and a heavy duty tripod to fully utilise it and achieve the same versatility as a long zoom prosumer camera. Moreover, a 5 fps camera would suit me better and so I would be looking at Nikon D300 or Canon 40D. The total cost for me would be in excess of $3000 .......... more towards $4000-$5000 at least. Somehow, I'm not willing to spend that kind of money despite my personal investment portfolio in the stock market increased by 6 figures (yes, over $100,000) over the past 2 years (not difficult given how much the stock market has run up over the period. Some stocks are 3-4 times my original cost)), sold out some and then the remaining shares fell nearly 6 figures recently during the correction (but still well above my orginal cost which was as far back as in 1999 and some bought after SARS in 2003. I'm those buy after crisis and hold kind of investor and I don't try to trade actively.). I guess my passion for photography is not as strong as my love for cash/money and therefore I am not willing to part with that few $K. ![]() Last edited by Clockunder; 7th December 2007 at 01:18 AM. |
